OXNARD, California) – Even Ventura Racing Association driver Ron Bach isn’t sure how many consecutive races he’s won.

No, Bach isn’t having a senior moment, even though he does drive in the VRA Senior Sprint Car class at Ventura Raceway. Bach won last week’s Senior Sprint Car main event and he finished in a dead heat for the win with Bob Alderman in the previous race back on May 3.

“Just say I’ve won one and a half in a row,” Bach joked. “That ought to get some attention.”

Bach, who lives in Ventura, goes for his third straight first place finish, or win number two and a half, May 24 when the Senior Sprint Cars share the track with VRA Sprint Cars, Sport Compacts, IMCA Modifieds, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs. The gates open at 3 p.m. and the youth classes run their heat races at 3:30. The adult classes start at 5:30.

Bach won the Senior Sprint title in 2006 and finished second in 2005, so he knows how to get around Ventura’s clay oval. He leads the standings again and said that one of the reasons for his success this season is that he has simplified his racing program. Of the five racecars he owns, only two run on a consistent basis.

So can he win again?

“Well,” Bach said, “we’re not changing the car any. You’ve got to do well in the heat races to start up front in the feature. You have to have some luck.” Bach added, “We had a good car last week. It was really hooked up.”

A retired engineer now working in the driveway construction industry, Bach refers to the VRA Sprint Car class as, “the Kids’ class,” and says the attitude in the Senior Sprint Car class is a bit more relaxed. But the racing is anything but relaxed, as witnessed by the dead heat two races ago.

Any driver would agree that a photo finish where even the photo could not determine the winner is indicative of close racing.

Raceway notes: Bach holds a 1,110-990 lead in the Senior Sprint Car standings over Rob Kershaw…Sunday’s NASCAR World 600 will have several former Ventura Raceway drivers in the starting lineup. The list includes Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart…Last week’s NASCAR Truck Series winner, Matt Crafton, raced at Ventura in the old Northern Stars Mini Sprint series as a teenager.####
