Kurt Busch overcame a local hero and heavy traffic to win the Featherlite Southwest Series, NASCAR Touring, Food 4 Less 100 presented by Sunoco Race Fuels at Madera Speedway on Saturday.
Busch, of Las Vegas, started 10th and had to weave his way through traffic around the 1/3-mile oval before passing Matt Crafton for the lead on lap 56.
"I didn't know who was in the lead," Busch said. "I thought the toughest car to beat would be the hometown hero, Jeff McCoun."
McCoun finished second followed by Dennis Dyer of Palmdale, Calif.; Doug McCoun, Jeff's brother; and Scott Lynch of Burley, Idaho.
Crafton, Kenny Shepherd, Darrell La Moure, Rocky Nash and Scott Busby rounded out the top-10.
The victory won $4,050 for Busch and boosted his advantage in the championship standings. He started the night 197 points ahead of second-place Shepherd.
The next race for the Featherlite Southwest Series will be Oct. 2 at Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.![]()
