Dale Roth returned to the winner’s circle in the top division Saturday night at the Douglas County Speedway.
The Roseburg racer started in the back of the 13-car, 35-Lap American Speed Association Premier Division field before passing his way to the checkered flag. Roth made his move to the lead on Lap 10 and when the race commenced 25 laps later, he had built a sizable advantage.
Roth currently stands in the third place in the ASA season points behind Matt Klaas and leader Wade Koens. Klaas finished second in the feature Saturday, but Koens suffered mechanical problems and had to leave the race early, finishing tenth.
Chris Schlaht, Happy Valley, won the combined A Heat/Trophy Dash and finished third in the feature. Roth won the B Heat. Klaas won the fast-time award.
Amos Rhodes won the Street Stock time trials and then went on to win the most points as well. The Port Orford driver sits atop the season point standings after finishing second in the Dash and the main. Dan Fouts won both of the races.
Oakland High student Benjer Herbert finished third behind Rhodes and Fouts in the main and improved to fourth in the season points. The 15-year-old racer won the Hornet division last season and is a rookie in the Street Stock class this year.
In the Mini Stock class, Roseburg Rob Mueller continued his quest to repeat as track champion. Mueller won the main and the time trial and has a large advantage in the season points.
Dave Wilson, Medford, and Jason Gotz, Damascus, finished second and third respectively in the main. Sutherlins’s Dale Yarbrough won the A Heat/Dash and his daughter, Dena James, won the B Heat.
Mike Batman and Dennis Minter swept all the Oldtimer racing events. Batman won the 20-Lap Main and Minter won the time trial and the Heat/Dash.
Larry Means made his season debut in the Super Stock class and won the 6-car Main. Winston’s Bob Brumback won the A Heat/Dash and Roseburg’s Don Moore won the B Heat.
Jo Lane Middle School student, Andy Nelson Jr., won his second Jr. Stinger race and Molly Jobe, Oakland, won the Lady Stinger event.
Al Jenkins, Roseburg, and Darren Williamson, Merlin, each won rounds of the Tuff Truck competition.
Racing returns June 21 at the Douglas County Speedway featuring the annual ASA Northwest Sprintcar Series Casey Diemert Classic. Also scheduled to appear on the race card are the Legend Cars, Thunder Roadsters, Street Stocks, Hornets, J-Cars, Mini Vans and Sedans.
