IRWINDALE, Calif. (June 11, 2008) – In celebration of Father’s Day, all Dads will be admitted for free when attending this Saturday’s (June 14) NASCAR Whelen All-American Weekly Racing Series event at TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale. Dads in attendance will also have the opportunity to enter a contest to win a Capt’n Cook high performance stainless steel 5-burner gas barbeque grill with side burner and rotisserie kit compliments of Barbeques Galore www.bbqgalore.com.
Five races headline the evening’s schedule including ACDelco Super Late Model Twin races, King Taco Super Trucks, Justice Brothers Mini Stocks, West Coast Pro Trucks and the Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8s.
Rancho Cucamonga’s Scott Conaway leads the ACDelco Super Late Model point standings with 332 points. Despite going winless in the first eights races, Conaway has finished in the top five in five of the races. Four other drivers are within striking distance of the lead and will have the opportunity to capitalize on Saturday’s twin races with points awarded in each contest. Nick Joanides of Woodland Hills is in second place with 326 points, as a result of a five race consecutive win streak which ended in the last race on May 31. Dan Moore of Burbank is in third place with 318 points and Travis Thirkettle who, on May 31 scored his first ever Super Late Model victory, is in 4th place with 312 points. Charles Price of Redlands began the season with two consecutive wins but experienced inconsistency during three recent races but rebounded in the last race with a strong 4th place finish. Price is in 5th place, only 22 points behind Conaway.
The King Taco Super Truck Series resumes action on Saturday and 17 year old Conner Cantrell of Valencia has been the driver to watch with consecutive victories in his last two starts as well as three in his last four outings. Cantrell trails point leader and defending champion Pat Mintey Jr of Quartz Hill by 14 points.
The West Coast Pro Trucks series returns to TOYOTA Speedway with Ricky James of Murrieta leading the point standings including three victories in his first six starts. James is a 19 year old paraplegic (paralyzed from the chest down) who drives his race truck with hand controls.
The Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8s also returns to action with defending champion Steve Stewart of Long Beach leading the point standings with 150 points. Barefoot Billy Ziemann of Bloomington is in second place with 142 points.
Barbeques Galore will have a display at the event featuring the latest in barbeque grills and accessories. Product specialists from the Pasadena store will be on hand to conduct product demonstrations and answer questions. Spectator gates open and qualifying begins at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session with drivers, crews and cars will take place on the track beginning at 5:45 p.m. Green flag racing action begins at 7 p.m.
