FLASHCO SRL SOUTHWEST TOUR SERIES POINTS UPDATE

WILTON, California – After the first three events of the Flashco SRL Southwest Tour Series, both the driver points and the rookie points standings are tighter than ever. The top five drivers are separated by only 36 points in the overall driver points standings with Jim Pettit II on top. The rookie points battle is just as tight with the top five only separated by 32 points and led by Josh Combs. With each race being worth 50 points for the winner, we are still a long way from being able to crown a champion or rookie-of-the-year!

This year’s group of SRL rookies has proven to be a very talented bunch. They are both young and old with varying amounts of driving experience in many different racing classes, from go-karts to late models, from road racing to Pro-4’s. Josh Combs in the Country Bear #7 Ford is currently leading the rookie points with 94 after a strong 4th place finish at last month’s race at Altamont. Rookie Justin Westmoreland out of Madera, CA has shown that he belongs in the SRL as well turning some quick laps in the first three events this year. Some bad luck in the Altamont race kept him from what looked like a potential finish near the front. Westmoreland in his #9 3M Automotive Aftermarket Ford sits just 14 points behind Combs. And sitting just two points behind Justin is the rookie member of the Mid Valley Iron and Metals team, Ryan Mock of Salida, CA in the #13 Chevrolet. Ryan got his first top 10 finish at the first race of the Tri-Holiday Series at Altamont.

2008 Rookie Points (Top 5)

#7 Josh Combs 94
#9 Justin Westmoreland 80
#13 Ryan Mock 78
#54 Joe Farre’ 66
#48 Mike Lay 62

The group leading the overall driver’s points is a who’s who of some of the most talented west coast short track drivers. The current points leader with 154 points, needs no introduction for anyone who follows racing in the region. The #03 car of Jim Pettit looks stronger than ever after winning the last two Flashco SRL events at Irwindale and Altamont. This comes after finishing third on the tight grooves of All American Speedway even after coming back from the rear of the field. Pettit in his Top of the Hill Performance Ford has looked unbeatable in the last two races and he has his eyes fixed on his ultimate goal, a Flashco SRL Championship. The next two drivers in the SRL championship points standings are deadlocked just 15 points behind Pettit at 139 a piece. Craig Raudman out of Cottonwood, CA in his #2 Chevrolet has been the model of consistency with top five finishes in all three of the Flashco SRL’s races. Raudman’s experience in driving tour cars for the old NASCAR Southwest Tour, including a championship in 2001, definitely has been evident in each race. Tied for 2nd in driver points is Goleta, CA’s Greg Voigt. Voigt, like Raudman and Pettit, has many years of experience and has won multiple championships. The #4 Auto-Pro Racing Engines Chevrolet has also been consistent with three top fives including finish second to Pettit in last month’s race at Altamont.

2008 Driver Points (Top 5)

#03 Jim Pettit II 154
#2 Craig Raudman 139
#4 Greg Voigt 139
#38 Troy Ermish 130
#18 Todd Bammer 118
