MORIARITY WINS THREE IN A ROW

ROCHESTER, Washington -- Finally, it was sunny, sunny, and sunny all day, June 14, 2008 at South Sound Speedway.

The Super Stocks saw Olympia, Washington’s #17 Bob Presley set fast time with a 13.814. The winner of their Trophy Dash was #99 Willy Thom.

Woodland, Washington’s #95 Rod Schultz, SR. would bring the field around for the start of the 100-Lap race, and lead the first 29 laps, but would retire early with a battery problem. Series points leader, #11 Tom Sweatman’s problems continued, he was out on lap 21 with a blown motor. Presley would retire on lap 34 while running in second with motor problems too. The #54 Mike Obrist would take over the lead on lap 30 with Moriarity in tow. Obrist looked like he was going to win his first race of the season, but on lap 80, he blew a right front tire and headed to the pits. Monroe, Washington’s #5 Moriarity, driving the Brock Rentals, Inc./Total Machine Concepts 2008 Chevrolet Monte Carlo would go on to win his third Super Stock Main Event in a row at the West Coast’s fastest 3/8’s mile paved oval. Moriarity said after the race, “I would rather be lucky than good. You need some luck too if you are going to win and receive the Quality Car Care money, an extra $1,000.00 starting from the last place position”. Rounding out their top five were runner up A.J. Fugitt, Tommy Elstoen, Obrist and Schultz, SR. Quality Car Care put up an extra $1,000.00 if Tom Moriarity could win from his last place starting position.

The Top Notch Trailer Street Stocks saw #41 Marshall Hallett set fast time with a 15.407. The winner of their Trophy Dash was #12 Bobby Micielli. Their top three in their A-Heat were winner #18 Eric Lee, Brad Borton, and Hallett. Their top three in their B-Heat were winner #14 Mike Saylors, Josh Wilson, and Tony Barlotti.

The #91 Wilson would bring the field around for the start, but it was the #47 Kevin Carver leading the first five laps. On lap six, Spanaway, Washington’s #93 Borton would wrestle the lead away from Carver and go on to win his second Street Stock 25-Lap Main Event of the season. Rounding out their top five were runner up Saylors, Hallett, Carver, and Barlotti.

The Bumblebees Trophy Dash winner was #35 Charles Bangs. The top three in their Heat-1 were winner #77 Devin Matthews, Criss Pitcock, and Eric Franson. The top three in their Heat-2 were winner #29 Kyle Matthews, Kevin Haider, and Bangs.

Olympia, Washington’s #7 Tyson Blood, driving the Eddie’s Automotive/Fusion Graphics/SnapOn Tools/Coumbs RV 1987 Toyota Celica GTS would bring the field around for the start and lead all 20 laps for his first Bumblebee Main Event win of the season. The #77 Devin Matthews, who finished third in the Main Event, was disqualified for failing post race inspection with an illegal exhaust. Rounding out their top five were runner up K. Matthews, Ron Anctil, JR., and Eddie Blood. Results are unofficial until Tuesday.

The Foreign Stock Car Racing Association Super 4’s saw Rochester, Washington’s #5 Wayne Dillon, win their Trophy Dash. The top three in their A-Heat were winner #3 Tom Keehan, Dillon, and Dan Hale. The top three in their B-Heat were winner #44 Kevin Koepke, Cody Stewart, and Jeff Jones.

The #44 Koepke would bring the field around for the green and lead the first nine laps until #5 Dillon, driving the Junction Sports Bar & Grill/Jail Sucks Bail Bonds/Marks Gutter Ford Fusion would take the lead away on lap ten and go on to win the Super 4’s 30-Lap Main Event. Rounding out their top five were runner up Stewart, Hale, Keehan, and Craig Derksen.

Upcoming racing at South Sound Speedway: Saturday, June 21, 2008 features the Limited Late Models, WESCO, Vintage Modifieds, and the Mini Stocks. Then on Saturday, June 28, 2008, come see the Super Stock 100, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, and WMRA compete. Back gate opens at 1:00 PM; front gate opens at 4:45 PM with qualifying starting at 5:00 PM, Autograph session around 6:00 PM, and racing at 6:30 PM.

Saturday, June 21, 2008 will be our MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY at South Sound Speedway. ALL Military, (Active, Retired, and Dependents), with ID, will be admitted for only $5.00.
