Many of the region’s best Late Model Super Stock teams are again expected to show for the ARCA West Circle K Late Model Challenge Series’ second visit to Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval this season. The series’ season opener in early May at the same facility rained out just prior to running the feature event. With good weather forecasted for this weekend, teams are busy preparing their cars to compete for nearly $12,000.00 in available purse & bonus awards in this 125-lap race dubbed the ‘Washington 125’.
The expected driver roster includes AW LMCS 2007 champion Gary Lewis in addition to series’ regulars Brent Harris, Erick Hargraves, Wes Rhodes, Shelby Thompson, Christian Roeder, Mark Sundberg, Don Vickery, Josh Roberts, Todd Walters and Marty Wason. Jason Jefferson, Mike Longton, and Garrett Evans are also expected. This will be Evans’ first race of 2008. AW LMCS Port City Racecars ‘Rookie Challengers’ entrants include Dan Rhodes, Jared Vorse, and Chris Walters. With this grouping of veteran and rookie drivers, Saturday’s race should prove to be a very exciting, competitive program at the beautiful ¼-mile venue.
Gary Lewis of Bothell WA and Pete Harding of Surrey BC have both scored wins early in the AW LMCS season. Lewis took top honors (and a $10k check) at Mission Valley Speedway in May, and Harding won at Sun Valley Speedway last weekend. Jared Vorse has had two strong runs with a second and fourth place finishes. Brent Harris of Wenatchee WA secured top qualifying spot at the WVSO opener, only to have his efforts rained out late in the program.
New to the AW LMCS this season, Heatshield Products of California is awarding a special bonus to the driver that makes the ‘Cool Move of the Race’ at each event. Lewis won the award at Mission Valley, and Eric Hargraves of Yakima WA earned the $200.00 bonus at Sun Valley.
WVSO’s ‘Washington 125’ schedule: Front Gate opens at 5pm, with qualifying to begin at 6pm and racing at 7pm. Ticket prices: $16.00 adult, $11.00 student, $4.00 kids, 5yo & under free.![]()
