MAYEA COMES FROM BEHIND FOR VICTORYGRAYS HARBOR RACEWAY

Zack Simpson of Hoquiam went from first to last and back to first in the 40-lap Cut Race Auto Parts “Hobby Stock Challenge Series” 40-lap feature and took home the top prize money of $1,000.00.
Kevin Krenz of Elma made a last lap pass on Jeff Monroe of Hoquiam and took the checkered flag in the HiLine Homes “Hornets” 15-lap feature race.
Late Model Super Stocks
Lisa Stroup of Redmond, OR. was the early race leader before giving the lead up to Todd Shandy of Albany, OR. on lap-4. After a caution flag on lap-5, Mayea had moved into contention and was running sixth, behind, Shandy, Stroup, Randy Neal of Lincoln city, OR. Mike Miller and Mike Miller of Springfield, OR.
Mayea had moved into third place by lap-8. John Duty of Portland made a bold move on lap-20 to take over the lead when he went from fourth to first when he got by Mayea, Miller and Shandy in slower traffic.
Duty was able to hold off Mayea until Mayea went under Duty in turn-4 of lap-30 for the lead.
Mayea survived two caution flag restarts on lap-37 and again on lap-48 and held off Duty for the checkered flag. Greg Walters of Portland finished third, Miller held onto fourth and Brett McCutcheon of Sweet Home, OR. made a late charge for fifth.
Ryan Gerig of Lebanon, OR. and Jeff Biffle, of Vancouver, WA. older brother of NASCAR driver Greg Biffle, earned their way into the feature race, finishing one-two in the 25-lap B Main. Mayea also took the checkered flag in the Trophy Dash earlier in the evening. “Hobby Stocks”
Simpson had the pole at the start of the race with Joe German of Aberdeen on the outside. It quickly developed into a five car race with German, Jack Parshall Jr. of Hoquiam, Chaz Wilder of Elma and Rick Rehanek of Vancouver, WA. easily outdistancing the rest of the field.
Parshall dropped out of the top five when he spun out in turn-2 on lap-14, and German was out of the picture when he tangled up with Dennis Krohling of Vancouver in turn-4 a lap later.
During the caution, Simpson gambled and went to the pits for a gas and go, which left Wilder in the lead, followed by Paul Short of Puyallup, Rehanek, Brandon Daniel of McCleary and Ian McCutcheon of Kirkland in the top five.
Short put Wilder into second on lap-20, while Simpson was on the move from the back of the pack.
Simpson had moved into fourth by lap-24 And regained the lead on lap-26.
Simpson was never challenged from there to the checkered flag as he took the checkered flag, followed by Short, Parshall Jr. came back to take third in front of Wilder and Daniel had to settle for fifth.
Scott Westley of Centralia and Daniel earned their way into the feature when the finished first and second in the 15-lap B Main, while Jacoba Kemper and Larry Brookshire of Eagle Creek, OR earned the final two spots in the feature race, coming out of the Last Chance 10-lap feature.
“Hornets”
Monroe led all but the final four-hundred feet of the “Hornets feature race. Monroe took the green flag followed by Clifford gill of Aberdeen, Eddie Blood of Olympia, Krenz and Brian Izzi of Olympia.
Krenz moved into third on lap-7, took over second with just three laps left in the race, and made his pass coming out of turn-4, and held off Monroe for the checkered flag. Blood finished third, his son Tyson Blood fourth and Gill held on for fifth.
Regular races return next Saturday night with point’s races for the “360 Sprints”, “Modifieds”, “Hobby Stocks”. “Midgets” and “Cruisers”. Gates open at 4:30 with racing around 6:30. Race Results -- 06/21/2008
