ELLENSBURG, Washington . – Local hot shoe, Mike Longton will be going for four wins in a row, this Saturday at Yakima Speedway. Ted Pollock, owner of the ½ mile ASA sanctioned facility has decided to put a bounty up for anyone that can beat the points leader in the 75 lap main event. Any racer that can get the better of the hard charging Longton will receive four tires for the next late model event at the speedway. Should Longton continue his dominance, he will receive two tires for his efforts. Pollock also stated that the Moxee flash must be running at the conclusion of the race.
The bounty has sparked the interest in other late model racers that have not competed at the facility on a regular basis this year. The 2007 ASA Northwest Tour champion, B.J. Tidrick is preparing his car to take a run at Longton. Tidrick won the 2008 Apple Cup in convincing fashion, but is running a reduced schedule this year. Owen Riddle, the 2007 Rookie of the Year and 2007 track champion, almost scored a win over Longton the last race. Riddle led until 8 laps from the end when a tangle with a lapped car moved him back in the field. Erick Hargraves has expressed an interest in returning to his home track to win another race, and the added bonus just makes it better. Either Eric Richardson from Bakersfield, California or Travis Bennett will be driving a late model car out of Ellensburg. Add in Ron Bemis, Christopher Kalsch, Ken Olson, Steve Thompson, Mike Zamora, Duke Langley and the rest of the highly competitive field and this race takes on added excitement.
Gates open at 4:00 and time trials at 5:00 with racing at 7:00. Also racing will be the Hobby Sportsman, Hobbies, Super Stocks, Bump to Pass and both classes of Hornets.![]()
