Despite a one hour delay for a generator problem the ASCA 360 Sprint Cars lived up to their reputation and put on one of the most entertaining races of the year at Canyon Speedway Park. Jeremy Reagles headed for the front of the pack at the start and opened up a half track lead as the race went green for the first fourteen laps. A yellow flag was brought out when the Lonnie Oliver car was unable to get into the pit area after breaking on the track. While the yellow was out the track lighting generator had another issue causing a 10 minute delay in the sprint car main. When the green appeared again it was Reagles, Shon Deskins and Bobby Marcum racing for the win. With two laps left Deskins made his move and wrestled the lead away from Reagles. The 44 car of Reagles came back to challenge for the lead on the last corner coming to the checkers but while Reagles and Deskins were battling in turn four it was Bobby Marcum making the move under both cars to take the win at the line by a bumper.
In the support classes the Modified Midget main was won by Adam Milsap after a race long battles with Paul Martin and Dalton Gabbard. Milsap held off all challengers however and took the checkers for his first AMMA main event of 2008.
The Pure Stock main event was all Lonnie Horgen as the point leader pulled away from the pack at every restart to take the main event over Michael Humphries.
Canyon Speedway Park will be back in action July 12th with ASCA/Challenge Cup Sprints, the Sands Chevrolet SW Modlites, the DDCC Dwarf Cars and the AMMA Non Winged Modified Midgets
Due to the inability of World Racing Group/ DIRTcar to uphold the original SWDRA agreement with Canyon Speedway Park, C.S.P. has chosen to cancel the races scheduled for July 5th 2008. We apologize to all the great Late Model racing fans and teams in the southwest that planned on coming out to Canyon Speedway Park to watch the Late Models.![]()
