THE NASCAR CAMPING WORLD WEST WAS HOT, HOT, HOT

I have been offered the opportunity to write the other side to Ms. Dugan’s incorrect observations" of the NASCAR Camping World West race at the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.

For starters, the race was anything but boring. It provided some of the most exhilarating racing a fan can find. There were battles all over the track. We had Jason Bowles and David Mayhew, Jeff Jefferson and Jim Inglebright, Jeff Barkshire and Eric Holmes and those are only a few of the many, many battles that raged on during the race.

The pass for the lead was exciting as lap after lap, Bowles almost positioned himself to take the lead, only to fade back as Mayhew powered forward. The fact that Mayhew lost 7 positions, did not make the pass for the lead any more exciting. It seems Mayhew used his stuff up while Bowles conserved his. Keep in mind Bowles has the genius of Bill Sedgwick behind him.

I cannot comment on the announcers as I chose to support the local track and racers by attending the event. But seeing them and the cameras in the pits was impressive.

Ms. Dugan bags on the split screen. I doubt HDNet would be able to make her happy with 4 screens showing. How many series at this level even have TV? I for one am very happy to have whatever coverage there is.

Ms Dugan fails to comment on many of the drivers, I suspect this is because HDNet focuses on leaders and crashes. But how about a call out to Terry Henry or Kristin Bumbera? Both of these relative newcomers to the series drove a very smart race. How about Chris Johnson? What a great qualifying run he had and so fast all day. What about the drivers that dodged the wrecks? Is it more important to know who or why a wreck happened or to know who finished?

Again my hat’s off to NASCAR and another amazing action-filled race. I would suggest that if Ms. Dugan actually went to the race, instead of being the weekend couch potato she might not be so bored. And Ms. Dugan the Sonoma race doesn’t count as you likely were there for the NASCAR Sprint Cup event.

There is so much more that happens in series like the NASCAR Camping World or the SRL SW Tour than what will fit on 60” Phillips in a two-hour time frame.

So Ms. Dugan, will we see you at Douglas County?####
