GOLDEN STATE RACING WINS THIRD STRAIGHT RACE AT ROSEVILLE, WITH HAYES TAKING FIRST WIN

ROSEVILLE, California – Wilton teenager Laura Hayes became the third Golden State Racing driver to pick up a win in as many weeks, as a busy summer continued last weekend for the team as it competed in both Roseville and Irwindale.

Hayes win came in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Western Late Model event at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA.

“It was really a great feeling to get my first win in a late model under my belt,” Hayes said. “With all of the hard work that we've been putting into the program this year, I was confident that a win was coming soon, especially after our strong 2nd place finish last week.”

Golden State Racing drivers Eric Schmidt and Kristin Bumbera began the weekend competing at Irwindale Speedway in the NASCAR Camping World Series West. Schmidt drove the Golden State Racing AT&T Chevrolet, and Bumbera drove for her own family team.

Schmidt was eliminated far too early from the 200 lap event, with engine troubles. Bumbera, the talented Drive for Diversity driver from Sealy, TX, was caught in a late race crash and finished 14th.

After competing Friday at Irwindale, the team headed to Roseville for what turned out to be a huge night.

Golden State Racing driver John Moore took advantage of problems for Gary Glenn to finish second and take over the points lead.

Bumbera took home her fourth pole of the season with a lap time of 13.773, just shy of the track record that she set last month. Bumbera charged from eighth on the grid to finish fourth.

Hayes went toe-to-toe with Moore throughout the event, passing Moore for third on lap 29. Hayes then moved into second by lap 38 and took the lead on lap 42 when Glenn dropped out.

The former open-wheel standout cruised home to her first stockcar win and surely not her last.

Golden State Racing has had a banner year so far in 2008, with Saturday’s finishes moving Moore closer to the championship.

Bumbera now runs sixth in the standings and Hayes is ranked eighth. Their rise through the order should continue as the season concludes.

On tap this Saturday night for Golden State Racing and its talented trio of Late Model drivers will be twin 50s.
