VENTURA, Caliornia – Tyler Edwards led every lap on his way to winning his second straight main event when he bested the USAC Junior Focus Midget field at Ventura Raceway Saturday.
The victory was the third of the season for the 15-year old. Edwards, a native of Oklahoma, recently moved to Ventura with his father. Edwards’ car is owned by sprint car star Cory Kruseman.
The other winners included Santa Paula's Damon Redman (IMCA Modifieds), Bruce Douglass of Ventura (Senior Sprint Cars), Ventura's Greg Taylor (Sprint Cars) and Santa Paula resident Randal Dougan (Sport Compacts).
Even though he led from start to finish, Edwards said the victory was not an easy one.
“The car was a little off,” Edwards said. “I had to compensate. It was a little tight in places.”
Dougan was named the winner of the Sport Compacts feature. The original finishing order was changed to reflect a penalty.
Taylor had to pass veterans Chris Wakim and Brian Camarillo during the second half of the race to claim his win. The final laps were as intense as any race this season.
Redman won after starting seventh. Randy McGraw, who started 16th, finished second.
Douglas won a rugged Senior Sprint Car feature.
