ERIE, Colorado -- Happy Ferree dominated another Snap-On Tools Pro Truck feature during the Mike’s Hard Lemonade Saturday Sizzler at Colorado National Speedway. In other action, Nick Burton claimed the 600 Mini Sprint feature, while Frank Denning III cruised to another CARC Modified Coupe feature. Dennis Edwards put his Cadillac in Victory Circle during the Doc Popcorn Super Stock feature, Lee Kemmit claimed the Suss.net Sportsman feature and Steel Dragon made a last lap pass to win the Witthar Racing Train race.
Nick Burton jumped out to the early lead in the 600 Mini Sprint feature with Jay Sant, Tim Weland, Paul Babich and Larry Pachello following. Babich and Pachello got by Weland on lap 6 and Stan Allen was fifth on lap 8. Burton and Sant were running away with the show when caution flew on lap 13 for Dwight Hoelscher dumping fluid on the speedway. Troy Simpson jumped into fifth on the restart, and then on lap 18 Brandon Steele broke down at the track exit for a caution. Simpson had jumped the last restart putting him in the back and Pachello slowed on the restart. Burton took the narrow win over Sant, Babich, Weland and Allen.
Frank Denning III jumped out to the Modified Coupe feature lead over Rich Bubak, Scott Rhoades, David Johnson and Mike Fetters. Caution flew on lap 3 after contact sent Andy Hampton backing into the turn 2 wall and hobbling off the track. Gary Land moved into fifth on the restart. Johnson would catch Denning a few timed in lapped traffic, but once Denning was in open air, he would pull away from Johnson. Denning cruised to the win over Johnson, Bubak, Rhoades and Gary Land. Rookie Jaime Bubak came home an impressive sixth, right outside the top 5.
Don Patterson jumped to the early lead in the Doc Popcorn Super Stock feature over Mike Cox, Joel Sidell, Ric Lothert, and Dennis Edwards. Sidell and Edwards got by Cox on lap 3. On lap 4, caution flew when Corey Greer broke at the track exit. Lothert got by Cox on the restart and Sidell took the lead on lap 6. Patterson got shuffled back on the high-side but was still fighting for position. Edwards got by Sidell for the lead on lap 9, and on lap 10 James McGinnis spun and started smoking, plus there was fluid on the track from another blown motor for Jeremy Barclay. Edwards led Sidell, Lothert, Emett Grazier and Patterson on the restart. Matt Burton got by Patterson on lap 10, and on lap 12 Grazier got by Lothert. On lap 13, Grazier took over second position and started going to work on Edwards. Connie Cox spun in turn 4 for a lap 19 caution flag. Lothert got by Sidell on the restart, and on lap 20 Burton got by Sidell for fourth and Mario Garramone also got by Sidell. Edwards took the close win over Grazier, Lothert, Burton and Garramone.
Lee Kemmit jumped out from the front row and took the early lead in the Suss.net Sportsman feature. Jeff Walbaum was second over JimBob Rogers, Eric Blackard and Nick Brinlee. Rogers moved into second on lap 6, after battling with Walbaum for several laps. Blackard got by Walbaum for third on lap 9 and Tommy Roe moved into fifth. Roe was fourth on lap 11, moving Walbaum back to fifth. On lap 16, Randy Mossman got together with Stephanie Brown for a caution flag. On lap 21, Blackard moved into second position and a caution was flown on lap 28 when Brown was on fire. The fire was out before Brown stopped and she resumed her position. Kemmit took the win over Blackard, Rogers, Roe and Walbaum.
Beau Kellogg led the first lap of the Snap-On Tools Pro Truck feature, but here came Happy Ferree. Ferree took the lead on lap 2 and led over Kellogg, Dustin Courter, Randy Whitman and Billy Harkins. Harkins and Chris Leaf got by Whitman on lap 7, then they both got by Courter on lap 13. Adam Deines took fifth from Courter on lap 15 as Courter started falling back. Ronnie Hults took fifth on lap 23 and Courter pulled off. Ferree took the win over Harkins, who made a last-lap pass on Kellogg. Leaf was fourth ahead on Hults.
For the second Witthar Train Race in a row, Termin’8’or got hit in the X, and this time it was the new train Nuts N Guts doing the damage. Turbo Train was leading on the last lap, but got slowed down by another train and Steel Dragon chugged to the win over Turbo Train.
Next Saturday night at Colorado National Speedway is the Coors Light Summer Shootout 100 featuring a 100 lap ableplanet Late Model feature. Also running will be the SUNOCO Grand American Modified, Doc Popcorn Super Stocks and the Loveland Goodyear Figure 8’s.![]()
