EXHAUSTING MOD RACE GOES TO GRUNERT

POST FALLS, Idaho – It was a rough night for Modified drivers competing in the 9th Annual Gary Miller 100 race. Mechanical woes, crashes, and bad luck took aim at top contenders leaving the victory up for grabs. Oroville, Washington’s Zig Grunert seized the opportunity picking up the win, his second of the season.

Grunert held off Chris Ochs in the final 30-laps to take the victory. Grunert inherited the lead after the three previous race leaders Blaine Sneva, dash winner Frankie Volz Jr. and heat winner Kevin Dietrich suffered mechanical problems midway in the race exiting the track under cautions.

Last year’s race winner Tim Sawyer finished third followed by heat winner Kevin Ratel and Dave Weaver. Rick Gimeno won a dash. Fast time setter Shane Mitchell suffered engine problems before the main event.

Caution flags for a backstretch pileup, debris, and fluid on the track slowed the race numerous times and reduced the 18-car field in half with only a few cars on the lead lap at the finish.

Kevin Burck, in a damaged car, won a crash plagued INSCA Sprint car race over heat winner Cole Tupling. Ron Rohde won the heat.

Hobby Stock point leader Brycen Tarr swept the Hobby division taking the fast dash and heat victory on his way to a dominating win in the 25-lap main event.

Tarr’s brother, Treven, set fast time and finished second. Billy Swift took third. Bob Flagor won the B dash and heat.

Next Saturday the ICAR Racing Series returns along with the Northwest Legends and Street Stocks. Events start at 6pm. Admission for the race is $10.75.

The wild, wacky, unpredictable action of Wednesday Night Fever continues Wednesday at 6pm with the cars and superstars of the Road Runners, Fever 4’s, plus the wild and crazy Bump to Pass division. Adults are just $5.75; kids under the age of nine accompanied by adults are free.

Road Runners and Fever 4 competitors will participate in a special race Friday July 25 called the Bert Shields Auto Supply Gold Cup Summer Classic. Events will start at 6pm. Adult admission is $5.75.
