Dirt Modifieds, Pure Stocks, Super Stocks and Bombers make up the exciting racing card this Saturday August 23rd at Canyon Speedway Park.

Seventeen year old Ricky Thornton Jr is the latest feature winner in the powerful Dirt Modified division taking the main event win on August 16th after a race long battle with another youngster in the modified class sixteen year old Chris McCurdy Jr. Track favorite Anthony Madrid lost some ground in his quest for the Canyon Speedway Park championship as he broke an engine fighting for the lead but still leads the 2008 standings by over fifty points. Second in points Jay Foster also had bad luck last Saturday as he broke a rear end in his modified while running up front. Third in the standings Jason Noll had a strong fifth place run after starting the main event in the seventh row. Two racers who have been close to each other all year in the point standings and on the track show how both the veterans and the rookies can run at the front at Canyon. Twenty year veteran Guy Norton is battling fourteen year old Tim Ward for the fourth spot in the standings. Norton finished third last week and in his interview following the twenty lap main event had nothing but praise for the rookie Ward as the two ran side by side for many laps. Ward is just twenty nine points behind Norton in the fifth position.

The Pure Stocks return after a summer break with one of the tightest points races in Canyon history. Scott Gunn leads the way with a ten point lead over Lonnie Horgan. Horgan had some bad luck last time the Pure Stocks ran as he was involved in a huge fourteen car wreck on the front straightaway which ended his night. Multiple feature winner Michael Humphries is third in the points chase just three points behind Horgan with veteran Marlowe Wrightsman fourth and Les Horgan rounding out the top five. Canyon is also looking forward to the return of front running Pure Stock racer Mike Madill who has been training at the NASCAR Technical Institute in North Carolina for the past three months and is expected to be in competition while vacationing in Arizona this Saturday.

The Super Stock field is led by Canyon veteran Lonnie Foss. A multiple main event winner at the Peoria oval looks to extend his points lead against the Super Stock field this Saturday. Mike Brigner is just forty five points behind the leader in this ultra fast stock car class. Former modified standout Terry Bridges runs third in the standings with Canyon champion Hillbilly Campbell and veteran Joe Sarginger rounding out the top five.

The popular entry level Canyon Speedway Park Bombers will also be in action. Side by side racing is the norm in the low cost division. Richard Bennett and Paul O’Connor are tied for the point standings in this fan favorite stock car class. Other drivers to keep an eye on in the Bombers are third place Jason Crowe, fourth place Ted Rasta and fifth place Rick Walker. The top five are separated by just sixty nine points.
