ANDY BEAMAN VICTORIOUS AT YAKIMA SPEEDWAY

ELLENSBURG, Wa — Veteran Andy Beaman made another rare appearance at Yakima Speedway in the Super Stock division, and scored an impressive win. A small field of only nine cars competed in the event, but all competitors very extremely competitive. The large crowd, on an unusual Friday night show, was treated to close, hard charging, clean main event. Beaman started in the fifth position and slowly worked his way up to the lead. Ben St. Mary led for the first 10 laps before popular Dusty John took over the point. Beaman moved to the front on lap seventeen and was receiving extreme pressure from Mike Pepper. The elder Pepper made numerous attempts to overtake the black car of Beaman but in the end was just a car length short. Rich Peters, Ben St. Mary and fast qualifier, Buck Noel Jr. rounded out the top five.

The Hobby Sportsman also thrilled the crowd with popular, second generation driver, Randy Marshall Jr. taking the top honors with an awesome four wins in the last five races. This win did not come easy as the top five competitors were right on the rear bumper of Marshall the entire race. The final finish does not reflect the great racing done by all the racers in the very popular, crowd-pleasing division. Jerry Walker Jr. had another great finish in second with points leader, Mel Patnode in third, Jeff Stevenson in fourth and fast improving Barry Mueller scoring a top five finish.

The new Hobby, or Pure Stock class, has grown in numbers each and every event this year. Ten cars signed in for the race. Ron Morton scored his first win of the year with Matt Chappel in second and Chuck Strimiska in third and points leader, Tyson Richter in fourth. Derek Raptchef rounded out the top five.

Youth Hornets was won by Kaylub Briskey. The Hornet class had17 cars on the small track. James Norman scored another win to close in on the points lead held by fourth place finisher, Terry Cook. The wild and crazy Bump to Pass cars saw heavy action and crashing all night long. Donnie Stevens, in the smallest car out there, scored another win.

Next event at the historic oval will be a huge two-day event on Labor Day weekend. On august 30th, the ASA Aero Exhaust Northwest Tour will make their final appearance in 2008 with a 125-lap race. Also on the card will be the exciting and fast Northwest Modifieds. The local Super stocks will race on Saturday. On Sunday, The ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series will present a 150-lap race. This marks the only appearance of the popular series at Yakima in 2008. The local Hobby and Hobby Sportsman classes will support the LMCS on Sunday. Front gates will open both days at 4:00 p.m. with time trials at 5:00 and racing at 7:00. Many competitors will be using this weekend as a tune up for the 22nd. Annual Fall Classic set for October 3-4-5.
