WILTON, Ca — The fastest short track cars in the West return for their final 2008 appearance at Altamont Raceway Park this Saturday, August 30th. The Flashco SRL teams are eager to get back on the track after a disappointing rain canceled Colorado event. The point standings remain tight going into the home stretch of the SRL schedule.
Jim Pettit in his #03 Top of the Hill Performance Ford is holding on to first place in championship standings by only 16 points after Craig Raudman had a strong performance in his #2 Performance Electrical Chevrolet in the last SRL race. Raudman was happy to finally get a victory after finishing in the top 5 in each of the SRL's previous 2008 events and hopes to ride that momentum to another victory at Altamont that might put him in the championship points top spot.
Local Altamont favorite Rick Ruzbarsky will be back racing his #51 Mid-Valley Iron and Metals Chevrolet after putting his car back together after an incident in the first of the Tri-Holiday races at ARP. Also, this week marks the return of SRL veteran Mike Mendenhall of Santee, CA who always shows up strong and in the lead pack with his clean professional style of racing.
Sacramento's Josh Combs in his #7 Country Bear Ford will be trying to keep his spot on top of the Five Star RaceCar Bodies Rookie of the Year points standings, while still trying for his first SRL win after a blown tire cut short a strong performance in the last race. He will have to push himself in these final races as Madera's Justin Westmoreland is only 7 points behind with some solid laps behind the wheel of his #9 3M Automotive Aftermarket Ford.
"Our thanks goes out to Jeff Macey and all the great folks at Altamont Raceway Park for making each of these events in the Tri-Holiday Series a great event for our race teams!", said Steve Fensler, executive director of the SRL. "We look forward to putting on a great show for the ARP fans this Saturday", continued Fensler.
