
Saturday night proved that Colorado National Speedway has some of the best devoted fans around. The rains came and went, but after waiting for 2 hours, the fans got to see some racing action during Sunday’s portion of the Pepsi Labor Day Shootout. The Legend Cars were on hand for National Qualifiers and Wayne Barlock Jr, Jimmy Hansen and Jon Krizman took the big wins. Rick Smith and Bruce Yackey took the win ableplanet Late Model features while Tommy Roe took home another Suss.net Sportsman feature win. Dennis Edwards took the Doc Popcorn Super Stock win and Termin-8-tor won the train race.
The Semi-Pro Legend main event was first on the track after the rain delay and Jennifer Johnson spun for a restart. Wayne Barlock Jr jumped into the early lead with Scotty Scott, Zach Powell, Kyle McCartney and Corey Seip on his tail. AJ Canada stopped for a lap 3 caution then stopped again on the restart to end his night. Seip moved past McCartney into fourth on lap 6 and was third on lap 13. On lap 14, Seip moved into second, but by that time, Barlock was checked out and on a Sunday drive. Barlock took his first career CNS win over Seip, Scott, Powell and McCartney. Scott failed post-race inspection moving Jason Stewart into the top 5.
Rick Smith jumped out to the early lead in the first ableplanet Late Model feature with Roger Avants, Darren Crocker, Joe James Jr and Darren Robertson following. On lap 8, Darren Bucklen and Nick Rozack spun for a caution and Larry Hunter spun to avoid the incident sending Photographer Rick running. Robertson moved into fourth on the restart and Crocker was second on lap 11. On lap 16 Crocker spun fighting for the lead and Ronnie Hults was now in fifth. James moved past Robertson into third on lap 26 and the battle for the lead between Smith and Avants continued. Bruce Yackey was into the top 5 on lap 27 and fourth on lap 29. On lap 39, Robertson got loose in turn 2 and the car snapped around sending Robertson hard into the wall for a caution. Smith held on for the final laps over Avants, Yackey, James and Hults. Mike Bowen spun on the last lap and collected Nick Rozack.
The Legend Pro and Masters combined for a main event and Chris Eggleston shot to the early lead over Danny Medina, Jace Hansen, Jon Krizman and Jimmy Hansen. Kyle Clegg took fifth from Ji. Hansen on lap 2, but Ji. Hansen fought back and took fifth back on lap 6. Eggleston, Medina and Ji. Hansen were all in a pack fighting for the lead and on lap 12, Medina and Eggleston tangled for a caution sending Medina to the rear. Eggleston now led Ja. Hansen, Jon Krizman, Ji. Hansen and John Hilliker. Ji. Hansen was third on lap 15, and second on lap 17 then chased down Eggleston. On lap 21, Ji. Hansen took the lead and caution flew on lap 22 for John Jolly stopping on the track. Ji. Hansen held on for the win over Eggleston, Ja. Hansen, Krizman and Hilliker. Krizman was the highest master finisher with second going to Bob Kroenberg.
Eric Blackard took the early lead in the Suss.net Sportsman feature over Lee Kemmit, Tommy Roe, JimBob Rogers and Nick Brinlee. Roe was second on lap 3 and took the lead on lap 4 with Brinlee moving into fourth. On lap 14, caution flew for Stephanie Brown getting spun around then Craig Homes and Bruce Borchardt tangling to miss Brown and Pete Maas spinning. Brian Anglim hit Brown, then backed up and ran into the track safety buggy. On lap 19, Jeff Webb moved into fifth and Blackard was trying everything to get the lead back. Roe held on for the win over Blackard, Kemmit, Webb and a sideways Brinlee.
The Doc Popcorn Super Stocks rolled out next and Mario Garramone led the first lap over Darrell Smith, Dennis Edwards, Emett Grazier and Mike Cox. Damon Dickey spun on lap 2 and Dan Dodot was sent to the rear. On lap 3, John Humphrey spun for a caution and on lap 4 contact sent Dickey spinning again with Jeremy Barclay spinning to miss Dickey and Jack Nugent going to the rear. On lap 6, contact sent Gerry Gardner hard into the backstretch wall for another caution. On lap 7, Edwards took command and led Garramone, Cox, AJ Grasso and Ric Lothert. Lothert was fourth on lap 10 and Grazier was back in fifth on lap 16. Emilio Abeyta broke for a lap 24 caution and the race wound end with a green-white-checkered. On the first attempt, Damon Dickey spun, then on the second attempt Mike Powers spun and collected Mike Dailey. The race was called complete and Edwards took the win over Garramone, Cox, Lothert and Grazier.
The second able planet Late Model feature was next our and the field had to be restarted after Rick Smith went spinning on the first lap. Bruce Yackey led early over Joe James Jr, Smith, Roger Avants and Tyler Chrisinger. A lap 3 caution for debris bunched up the field and then all three Darren’s were part of a lap 8 caution. Darren Crocker spun and Darren Robertson spun to avoid Crocker, then Darren Bucklen hit Robertson head on. Yackey now led Smith, Avants, Chrisinger and Mike Gallegos. Derek Murphy spun on lap 12 and Crocker was put to the rear of the field. The rest of the way went caution free and Yackey took the win with Smith, Avants, Chrisinger and Gallegos.
Termin-8-tor won the Witthar Racing Train Race to end the night.
