PUYALLUP, Wash — driver Mitch Olson had run at Skagit Speedway with his 410 sprint car a number of times this year, preparing to race against some of the world’s best sprint car racers when they come. A sixth place finish in June’s Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup was a good start. He also narrowly lost a race at the finish. On Saturday, August 30 his preparation paid off.

The Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws returned to Washington this season for a few nights of racing in the Evergreen State. Driving the Mike Olson No. 98m Shark-powered KPC sponsored by SC Fuels, Olson Excavating, Pro-Vac and PRS Group, Olson made a mark on Saturday night.

Olson started the evening by qualifying 14th quickest out of 42 cars entered with a time of 11.632 seconds around the 3/10-mile, high-banked bullring oval. Starting on the pole of the second heat race, all Olson had to do was finish in the top two to get in the dash race. He did just that with a second place finish behind former Knoxville Nationals winner Kraig Kinser.

In the dash, Olson finished ninth out of ten starters to get that starting position in the 30-lap A-Feature event. Olson ran around the 13th position most of the race and in the last few laps did Mitch fade as his right rear tire had worn down. Olson would finish a respectable 17th place against the some of the best sprint car racers in the business.

Olson also competed in another World of Outlaws event at Skagit Speedway and also raced on Labor Day at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.

Over the last few years, Mitch Olson has established himself as one of the top sprint car drivers in the Pacific Northwest, with victories at Skagit and Grays Harbor Raceway in 360 sprint cars to his credit, along with numerous top-five efforts at other tracks in Oregon. Olson is looking for experienced people, preferably living in Washington’s Pierce County, who may be interested in joining the No. 98m team.
