
This Saturday night at Grays Harbor Raceway located at the Fairgrounds in Elma, it’s Championship night presented by ROXY Radio and MASCO Petroleum. All classes will be on hand, Whitney’s Auto Group ASCS 360 Sprint Cars, Shipwreck Beads Modifieds, Ford Focus Midgets, Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stocks, Cruisers and the HiLine Homes Hornets. The classes will run trophy dashes and main events.
In the Whitney’s Auto Group ASCS 360 Sprint Car division point standings, Raymond’s Glenn Borden Jr. holds a slim ten point lead over Tacoma’s Shawn Rice 1560 to 1550. Shelton’s Jay Cole slipped back to third four points behind Rice 1546, followed by Henry Van Dam from Enumclaw with 1542. With only 18 points separating the top four in points the championship is still a four way battle. Top Rookie of the year contender TJ Hartman from Puyallup holds down fifth position with 1472 points, Renton’s Dan Dunlap is forty eight points behind Hartman with 1424 points
Shipwreck Beads Modified point leader Blair Shoemaker from Tacoma, has a 18 point lead over 2007 Modified Champion Scott Miller from Shelton 1416 to 1398, heading into championship night, Miller will be hoping for a little racing luck on Saturday Night as he looks to try and win back to back Championships. Rochester’s Leroy Lawhead continues to hold down third spot with 1382 points, followed by Seabeck driver James Wolford with 1300. Aberdeen’s Greg Dineen moved back into the fifth position with 1276 points after McCleary’s Jeff Foster had engine problems at the last race and did not start the feature, this ended a great year end charge by Foster, dropping him to eighth place in the standings.
Marysville’s Jeff Bell is in the driver’s seat to win his first ever Ford Focus Midget Championship, he holds a fourteen point lead over Lee St Paul from Shelton. St. Paul has really picked up his program this year as he continues to finish in the top three every night. Bonney Lake’s Shon Vallon moved back into third spot with 954 points, closely followed by Rookie Austin Hespe and last year’s Midget Champion Dan West. Jr. who are tied at 948 points. Hespe’s point’s took a big hit at the last points race, after rolling his car in turn one and ending up with last place points.
In the Cut Rate Hobby Stock point standings, Aberdeen driver’s hold down the top three positions , lead by last year’s Champion Zack Simpson who has 1472 points and is looking to make it two Championship’s in a row. Fellow Aberdeen drivers, Jack Parshall. Jr. and Joe German are only separated by ten points at 1434 to 1424, Centralia’s Scott Westley sits in fourth with 1372 points followed by Bremerton’s Keith Knowlton with 1346.
The Cruiser division has the closest point’s race of all the divisions at Grays Harbor Raceway, the team of Boling/Warner leads the team of Crawford/Hurd by only two points 1014 to 1012. Third, a little further back with 892 points is the driving duo of Crawford/Crawford. In forth is the combination of Hinkley/Austin with 856 points, followed by the team of Laso/Whipple with 812 points.
In the HiLine Homes Hornet division Eddie Blood from Olympia is on his way to being the first Hornet Champion at Grays Harbor Raceway as he has a 144 point lead over Brian Izzi 1018 to 874, a main event victory is worth 150 points, so all Blood needs to do is start the event and he will be the Champion. Kevin Krentz is sixteen points back in third spot with 858, followed by Tyson Blood with 724 and Cliff Gill at 706.
After this weekend there are only two weekends of racing left, including the Mountain Dew/AMP Energy I-5 Late Model 50 and round two of the Cut Rate Auto Parts Hobby Stock Challenge Series on September 13th and ending the season on September 19th and 20th with the second annual ASCS Fred Brownfield Memorial for the 360 Sprint Cars , that will pay $10,092 to the winner, making it the biggest 360 Sprint Car race in the Northwest.
