EVERETT, Washington — September 8, 2008 - The American Speed Association/Northwest Sprintcar Racing Association (ASA/NSRA) 2008 Championship is still up for grabs with only three races left on the schedule.
Matt Hein driving the #98h leads the series with 543 points after ten races but is followed very closely by the 2007 Champion Andy Alberding in the #76 with 520 points. Sierra Jackson, driver of the #25j, by virtue of her win at Ephrata Raceway Park and her strong second place finish at StateLine Stadium Speedway has moved from fifth to third in season points with 485. Trailing Jackson by just one point is Justin Mack driving the #17 in fourth with 484 points. Five points behind Mack is Jake Mann driver of the #51 in fifth with 479 points. Only 64 points separate the top five. With 80 points the maximum possible at each race the top five could easily change after each race.
Sixth through tenth have an equally tight points battle. Sixth place Cory Lockwood in the #99r has accumulated 458 points, just 21 points behind fifth place Mann, 26 points behind fourth place Mack, and 27 points behind Jackson. In seventh is R. J. Fronsman in the #25z with 434 points, just 24 points back of Lockwood. Eighth in season points is currently held by Greg Middendorf in the #4 with 424 points, ten back of Fronsman and thirty-four back of Lockwood. Ninth is a tie in points at 345 for both Adam Roduner and Rick Brown. Kenny Hamilton sits just outside the top ten with 328 points.
The Rory Price Memorial presented by Millennium Motors at Evergreen Speedway, Monroe, WA September 13th will be the next race on the ASA/NSRA schedule. It is the longest racetrack these drivers will see during the season at five-eighths mile in length with 8-degree banked turns. In addition, with a much larger than normal purse for the winner a substantially larger field of cars are expected to compete. Over thirty winged sprint cars are anticipated for the Rory Price Memorial. A large field and a long track could put the top drivers points positions in jeopardy.
ASA/NSRA is the most exciting opened wheel racing on the west coast and by far the fastest. NSRA drivers currently hold 21 all time track records at venues throughout the region. These are open wheeled, winged sprint cars running on paved ovals utilizing 750 horsepower alcohol-burning engines running on tracks that vary in length from quarter mile to five-eights mile facilities.
