Making the Gold Cup Race of Champions A-Feature finale on Saturday is no easy task usually, and that was again the case this year with 106 cars on hand at Silver Dollar Speedway. Chad Hillier, however, accomplished the feat this year with a 12th place effort.

The Burlington, Wash. driver, piloting the DIRT Inc. No. 5c Maxim sponsored by Jansma Construction, Wink Dog Motorsports and Fast Wings, was part of the Friday preliminary event and out of 54 cars that qualified that night, Hillier was fifth quickest with a time of 11.792 seconds around the fast ¼-mile clay oval.

Starting third in the first heat race, Hillier finished fourth to transfer to the Friday night preliminary feature. His qualifying time was more than good enough also to get him into the dash race. Hillier’s tenth place finish in that put him outside the fifth row for the main event. Hillier turned in his best finish of the year with the World of Outlaws by finishing seventh.

When points were tallied and Friday’s drivers were put up against Thursday’s drivers, Hillier ended up doing fairly well, starting the big A-Feature outside Paul McMahan in the fifth row. Hillier was one of only 26 drivers out of 106 to make the field, and two of those drivers used provisionals from the World of Outlaws to get in.

Hillier rode around the track to a solid 12th place finish worth $2,000. It was a strong improvement over last year’s Gold Cup, which saw Hillier finish in the B-Main.

Hillier still sits 16th in the Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series point standings, and is only 47 tallies behind Tony Bruce Jr. for 15th. Next for Chad is Clay County Speedway in Iowa on Wednesday before a three-race weekend with events in Missouri and Kansas. At the end of the month, the cameras will be rolling at Williams Grove Speedway as SPEED will be taping the Morgan Hughes National Open for a later broadcast.

DIRT Inc. is currently seeking companies that are interested in advertising and being part of the team as they race across the nation, coast to coast, and onto your television screen. Interested parties can contact Team Owner Dave DeWitt at RacingDave1960@aol.com, 425-308-8658, or 19916 Old Owen Road, #100, Monroe, WA 98272.
