LAS VEGAS – NASCAR Busch Series driver Jimmie Johnson ran a second faster during day two of testing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, earning the best time of today’s six teams bringing this week’s NASCAR testing to an end.
Johnson turned a 32.26 seconds (167.701 miles per hour) to edge past Jay Sauter’s time of 32.43 seconds and increase his confidence in returning to LVMS for the March 3 Sam’s Town 300.
“Yesterday was my first day back in the seat this season, so I was a bit rusty and had forgotten the line,” Johnson said. “This morning Todd Bodine came over and helped tremendously - both with car setup and showing me the correct line.” … “We probably ran two races on the engine today, but this test gives us a great baseline because this is the car we’re bringing back with a new, fresh engine.”
A day without incidents at LVMS brings the five-day test, with 25 NASCAR Winston Cup Series teams and 22 NASCAR Busch Series teams, to a quiet end.
Here is a complete list of Friday’s testing times for NASCAR Busch Series drivers: Jimmie Johnson (167.701 mph), Jay Sauter (166.666), Ashton Lewis (166.325), Elton Sawyer (166.223), Todd Bodine (166.151) and Christian Elder (163.636).![]()
