JEREMY THORNTON TAKES BOUNTY

Another exciting Barnett Modified race at Canyon Speedway Park Saturday night saw Jeremy Thornton take the 25 lap main event and the $800 that went along with it. The track’s regular $650 to win purse was raised by a bounty of $100 by Allscapes and $50 by Garry Johnson if anyone could win the main event while any of the three multiple feature winners (Rick Thornton Jr, Anthony Madrid, and Jason Noll) were in competition. Jeremy Thornton took the lead from the start and was challenged throughout the main event by Bo Hatfield, Jason Noll and Rick Thornton Jr. Side by side racing was the norm through the pack of 20 starters as the field of drivers was able to run high or low on a great race track.

Jason Noll had some incentive of his own as he took a challenge from Rene Madrid to run Rene’s back up engine and try to win the main event. Rene pledged $1,000 if Noll took the challenge and won. Jason finished 2nd in his heat race and came all the way to 3rd in the main event from his 8th starting spot.

Heat races were won by DJ Wood, Thornton Jr and Bo Hatfield with John Walters taking the semi main event. Making up the top 5 in the main event were Jeremy Thornton, Ricky Thornton Jr, Jason Noll, Bo Hatfield and Tim Ward

Sport Mods were on hand with 13 cars signed in their growing division. Heats were won by Chris Rhein and Shannon Williams. The 20 lap main event was all James Webster as the Sport Mod Rookie of the year contender had almost a straightaway lead at times during the feature race. Zach Hamilton in from New Mexico had a great race closing in on the leader toward the end of the main event finishing 2nd. Positions 3rd through 5th were Rhein, Taylon Center who was the youngest of the 3 Centers in the race (brother Cody and Dad Darin were also in the event) and Justin Thornton.

The AMMA Modified Midgets were running without their wings on Saturday night. Their 17 car field was divided into 2 heat races with Adam Milsap and Joshua Shipley coming out on top. Shipley got to the front at the start of the main event and held on for the win despite several yellow flags and restarts that saw a challenge every time. Milsap finished 2nd followed by Justin Quinn, Paul Martin and Tyler Merrill.

Racing continues next Saturday night at Canyon Speedway Park with the Barnett Modifieds and the Sport Mods in their last regular season points race along the Pure Stocks, AODC Dwarf Cars and Bombers
