Rookie Burney Lamar, of W. Sacramento, California overcame an hour and a half wait and some heavy competition to qualify 4th out of 58 entries for tomorrow's NAPA Winter Heat stock car Races at Phoenix International Raceway.
Driving the Colorado Springs, CO> based Bonicelli Racing Team's Waveshield Western Funding, AmeriSuites Pontiac Grand Prix, Lamar was the 8th driver to take to the one-mile super-speedway, necessitating his hour and a half wait to find out where he would start tomorrow's 100 mile NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series Event.
M.K. Kanke, the former driver of the Mike and Sharon Bonicelli owned stock car qualified 2nd behind NASCAR Winston cup regular, Ken Schrader. Lamar turned the one-mile oval at a speed of 130.762 MPH, compared to Ken Schrader's 131.752 MPH.
Tomorrow's 100 lap Southwest Series Event will start at noon, followed bay a 250 mile NASCAR Winston West Event.![]()
