ANTELOPE, California — Austin Cameron shook his head as he climbed out of the No. 18 NAPA AutoCare Toyota Camry at Altamont Raceway. He brought home his fourth top-five of the season in the NASCAR Camping World Series West. This finish gained him a position; moving him to sixth in the chase for the series championship with one race left to be held at All American Speedway, Roseville, California on October 25th.
The No. 18 NAPA Toyota came out of the Bill McAnally Racing hauler already with some slight right rear-end damage after coming loose on the trip to the track. “Well, we knocked the new out of her,” exclaimed crew chief Robert “June Bug” Strmiska. “We’re ready to go racing!” Fifteenth on the board in practice, the team from BMR went to work prepare the NAPA AutoCare Toyota for qualifying. Cameron put the car on the outside of row three in front of the eventual race winner, Jason Fensler.
Within three laps of the 200-lap race, Cameron had moved into the top five. After the half-way break, he began racing hard for the front and took the lead at lap 152. He battled a tight condition and lost a few positions during the final twenty laps of the race; finishing in fifth.
“
I really wanted to win this race,” said Cameron. “The guys back at the BMR shop did a great job preparing this car. We know that winning the championship is out of the question but we are heading to the finale focused on winning the race. I want to thank the No. 18 NAPA AutoCare team for a great job all season.”
