
IRWINDALE, California — The Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8’s and an All Women Demolition Derby highlight a six race schedule this Saturday (September 13) during Southern California Pipe Trades Family Night. at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale. The schedule features action in NASCAR Whelen All-American competition including division races in King Taco Super Trucks, Justice Brothers Mini Stocks, West Coast Pro Trucks and Legends Cars.
All members of the Southern California Pipe Trades will be admitted for free as well as youngsters 15 years of age and under as part of a Family Night promotion.
Two races remain in the King Taco Super Truck season with Pat Mintey, Jr. of Quartz Hill holding a 50 point cushion over Connor Cantrell of Valencia. Mintey has built his lead by scoring podium finishes in 10 of 12 races including three wins and four 2nd place finishes. Entering the last race on September 6 (which Mintey won), Cantrell had amassed six wins and two runner-up finishes placing him within striking distance of Mintey. However Cantrell’s misfortunes during the race resulted in a 20th place finish.
Two races remain in the Justice Brothers Mini Stock season and division points leader Rich Garver of Torrance hopes to increase his 28 point lead over Jacob Rogers of Riverside. Garver has accumulated 508 points thanks to eight podium finishes in 11 races this season. Rogers has kept pace with 480 points and has been aided by two victories and three 2nd place finishes.
The West Coast Pro Truck series makes its final appearance of the season at TOYOTA Speedway on Saturday night. Jeff Williams of Newberry Park leads the series point standings with a slim 31 point lead (2196 – 2165) over Ricky James of Murrieta. Each driver has scored two victories apiece at the Speedway this season.
Tom Landreth will be looking to clinch his sixth Legends Cars division title on Saturday night. The Alta Loma resident won his last title in 2006 and is in second place in all time TOYOTA Speedway victories with 40. Landreth has a 92 point lead over rookie Eric Gunderson of San Diego and just needs to accumulate 8 points in Saturday’s race to win the championship.
Steve Stewart of Long Beach has a 16 point lead (298 – 282) over Barefoot Billy Ziemann of Bloomington in the Pick Your Part Outlaw Figure 8 competition. Two races remain on the schedule and Stewart has won five of the six races thus far while Ziemann has won one race and finished in second place on two other occasions.

Spectator gates open and qualifying begins at 4 p.m. The King Taco fan appreciation autograph session with drivers, teams and race cars on the race track will begin at 5:45 p.m. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

TOYOTA Speedway at Irwindale’s Drag Strip will host its Test and Tune street legal racing program this Thursday. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing from 5-10 p.m. It costs $20.00 to compete and $10.00 for adult spectators to watch the action. Kids 5 and under get in free.
