CLOCE VAULTS TO THE TOP OF THE EAST REGION STANDINGS IN THE JOE GIBBS DRIVEN RACING OIL ASA MEMBER TRACK NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPSTAPP CONTINUES TO LEAD IN THE WEST REGION AND HAS OVERALL LEAD

DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — Only 10 days remain in the battle for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship. With the deadline of September 28th, competitors have either captured the track championship needed to be eligible for the National Championship as well as tracks reaching the plateau of 14 events. As noted in earlier releases, in order for a competitor to have a fair chance at the National Championship, they need to have two things. One, they have to be a 2008 track champion and two, have the highest point average. The key to getting an accurate point average is that they need to have at least 14 events at their track this season. If a driver has less than 14 events, they will not have a correct point average and it could hurt their chances at winning the National Championship. Tommy Cloce of Adirondack International Speedway in Beaver Falls, NY is a perfect example of how a driver will get an accurate point average when they reach 14 events. Prior to the racing action last Saturday night at Adirondack, Cloce had a point average of 3.9010. The Speedway hosted a triple 25-lap feature event for their season championship. Cloce’s point average was based on 11 events. The triple feature got him to that 14 event plateau. Cloce had a fourth, and two second place finishes last Saturday night. Those finishes secured the track championship by 69-points over Andre Rogge. Rogge had two wins and a third last Saturday night. With his three finishes and achieving the 14 events, Cloce vaulted to the top of the East Region standings with a point average of 4.7599. He easily surpassed Jimmy Mullins of Franklin County Speedway, who was sitting at the top with a 4.4787. Overall, Cloce is currently third with his average as Cary Stapp remains at the top of the West Region with a 5.1610. Stapp is being chased by Linny White of Orange Show Speedway, who has a 4.9477. But, Stapp has only 13 events in so far this season. The racing action at the Kyle, TX facility was cancelled this past Saturday due to Hurricane Ike. They hope to resume their action this Saturday night allowing Stapp to get his 14th event. He currently has a 313-point lead over Duane Toyne at Thunderhill Raceway. White currently has a 124 point lead over Rick Chavez at the San Bernardino facility and will be back in action on Saturday, September 27th where he will have another opportunity to improve his average before the deadline. Many American Speed Association Member Tracks will continue to crown their 2008 track champions and achieve the 14 event plateau. With two weeks left, it is still not clear on who will be the inaugural Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Champion. Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil, sponsor of the American Speed Association National Short Track National Championship, is the same oil developed and used by Joe Gibbs Racing. The team sells the oil so racers across the country can have access to the latest technology in racing lubricants. Joe Gibbs Racing is one of the premier organizations in NASCAR, currently fielding three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams, two NASCAR Nationwide Series teams and a driver development program. Its driver lineup consists of Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch in the Sprint Cup Series; Stewart, Hamlin, and Busch in the Nationwide Series; and Joey Logano and Marc Davis in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. Based in Huntersville, N.C., and owned by Joe Gibbs - a three-time Super Bowl winner as head coach of the Washington Redskins and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame - JGR has competed in NASCAR since 1992, winning three Cup Series championships and more than 80 NASCAR races, including three Brickyard 400s and the 1993 Daytona 500. The American Speed Association Short Track National Championship is another step by the industry leader in creating new and innovative programs. This follows the recent announcement about extending the insurance coverage for ASA members traveling to, from, and during an ASA-sanctioned event. The American Speed Association Member Track program is comprised of a network of short tracks around the United States, as well as a variety of regional and national touring series.
