HUNTERSVILLE, North Carolina -- Huntersville, North Carolina driver G.R. Smith enjoyed a very strong weekend, as he and the D&H Motorsports team competed in three Dirt Late Model events from September 12-14 in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The tripleheader weekend was highlighted by an impressive victory on Saturday, September 13 at the Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina! G.R. beat David Taylor, Timmy Blackwell, Dean Bowen, and Roger Lucas to the checkers in the $2,000 to win A-Main to record his fourth triumph of 2008!
Earlier in the weekend, G.R. was in action in a $5,000 to win O'Reilly Southern Allstars Series (OSAS) show at the Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, Georgia on Friday. After setting quick time in qualifying to earn the pole position for the feature, the driver known as the "Wild Child" led a couple of different times before winding up a strong runner-up behind winner Ronnie Lee Hollingsworth. The ultra-busy weekend for the #54 team concluded on Sunday at the Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, South Carolina. G.R. started eighth in the $10,000 to win OSAS-East event, but retired early in the nineteenth position. "We had a great car all weekend," simply stated Smith via telephone this week. "We got the win at Fayetteville and we almost pulled it off at Swainsboro on Friday. Our car at Swainsboro was great when the track was a little smoother, but when it rutted up, we weren't as good in the rough. I can't thank the D&H Motorsports team enough and hopefully there are a few more wins coming for us before the conclusion of the 2008 racing season!"
The D&H Motorsports team has one lone event on their upcoming schedule, as they will travel back to the Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, North Carolina on Saturday night, September 20. FMS will play host to a $2,000 to win unsanctioned race on Saturday evening. You can view additional information on this event online at www.fayettevillemotorspeedway.net.
