POST FALLS, Idaho — Kalispell, Montana’s Agni Howell recorded his first ever major main event win for Late Model racing in the region taking the victory over 24 other cars in the Inland Northwest Super Stock Series finale Saturday night at Stateline Speedway. Dave Garber took second to claim his second INSSA championship title. Howell, who has posted strong finishes at various high profile events this year, started deep in the field with other fast cars and quickly moved to the front of the pack moving past slower and lapped cars. Fellow Montana driver Wrango West, in his first start at the track, inherited the lead on lap 41 when race leader Steve Parrish dropped off the track with mechanical problems bringing out the caution. On the restart Garber pressured West heading into turn four making contact. The two slowed hooked by body pieces. Howell holding the third spot slipped by to assume the top spot. Howell led 45 laps thru four cautions and a green, white, checker finish to take the victory. Garber finished second with heavy front end damage to lock up the championship to make him the first ever back-to-back champion in the series. West finished third in his Stateline debut after running in the top three all race. Jack Morse held strong for fourth followed by Dan Garber, Jeff Fenton, and Rusty Webb. Troy Schweigert of Montana, Billy Belton, and Idaho’s Corey Allard rounded out the top ten. The race was slowed by seven cautions. Nineteen of the 24-cars that took the green flag finished. Eleven drivers finished on the lead lap. Incoming weather altered the format of the races for all divisions. Dashes were not run. Heats were only run for Trucks and Hobby Stocks. It was a battle of Stateline Speedway legends in the Hobby Stock season finale. Track mainstays Matt Tarr and Billy Swift battled side by side with Tarr taking the lead and win in the 20-lap race. Tarr’s son Treven took second, Swift dropped to third. Heat winner Brenden Tarr took fourth followed by Gary Homel and Joel Schrader. Dave Harrison, Michelle Snyder, Steve Ellis, and Yvonne Lifsey rounded out the top ten to close out the season. Mike Wiley won a three wide truck battle and held off series champion Jason Majors to win the Northwest Pro 4 Truck season finale. Wiley moved around lapped traffic on the final lap to claim the 25-lap event over Majors who closed within a bumper on the final lap. Majors’ finish locked in the championship his third in the last five years. Jim Milligan finished third followed by Steve Morris and Carl Scheffler. Jeff Hector set fast time and finished in ninth to claim second in the standings. Jerry Buell and Phil Lord won heats. Saturday racing concludes next Saturday with the first ever running of the Slobber Knocker for Limited Late Models in the region. Drivers from three different series are expected to compete. Admission is $10.75. Events start at 6pm.
