WENATCHEE, Washington — The #68 HayWire Motorsports / KMB Design Groups / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Mauritsen Enterprises Toyota Camry ended the Limited Late Model Racing Series 2008 season, Saturday, September 20th, 2008 at Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval with a runner-up finish in the final Main Event of the season.
As most other racing series’ had already ended their seasons, the LLMRS found a few new faces on hand for Championship Night and the #68 HayWire Motorsports team knew they had some stiff competition. Super Late Model drivers such as Frasier, Sundberg & Walters meant the LLMRS regulars would need to be on their game for this one. McDougald and his #68 HayWire Motorsports team answered the call, qualifying 3rd fastest, placing the #68 KMB Design Groups / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Mauritsen Enterprises Toyota Camry in the final Trophy Dash of the year. “I was really happy with that qualifying lap,” said driver “Terrible” Tim McDougald, “We made the Dash, that means we only missed 1 Dash all year. I’m very proud of that, it’s quite an accomplishment really. It shows that we are fast week in and week out.”
With the Heat Race spent just taking what was given, McDougald knew the real work was the Main Event. And with his qualifying run placing him deep in the field with those big name drivers, the pressure was on. Starting the Main Event on the outside, McDougald chose to drop back and fall in line at the drop of the green flag, a decision that would quickly prove it’s worth as the leaders began stacking up on lap 2 finding several drivers with damage while the #68 Toyota Camry, having time to see it unfold, drove around the wreck damage free.
With the race back under green, McDougald settled in and began moving forward following the big name drivers to the front. Mid way through the race, the #68 KMB Design Groups / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Mauritsen Enterprises Toyota Camry was holding a firm grasp on the 4th spot and pressuring the #88 for 3rd. McDougald showed some good old short track driving tactics, giving the nudge to the #88 going into turn 1 and taking the 3rd spot from him. The move left the #68 Toyota Camry with some damage to the front end, but a clear view of the leaders.
With only a handful of laps to go one of the leaders wrecked in turn 1 handing the 2nd spot to McDougald. With the #88 right back on his tail and wanting his spot back, McDougald would have a green-white-checker finish full of protecting his position while trying to see if he had anything for the #72 of Mark Sundberg. In the end, McDougald was able to hold on for a second place finish and hold on to his 3rd place spot in the 2008 LLMRS Championship Standings. “I’m very pleased with that run,” said McDougald, “The #72 was very fast, we really didn’t have anything for him. But to run second tonight with this caliber of drivers is a great accomplishment. I’m very happy with that run. Once again my guys gave me a good car right off the trailer. We made a few adjustments to get a little better. And we capped it off with a strong run In the Main. I guess we had a right front shock break somewhere about half way through that race. We found it stuck between the brake rotor and the wheel. I felt something in the steering and I couldn’t turn to the right, but I figured the power steering was out or something. I didn’t think it was a broken shock stuck in the wheel. Guess we got lucky on that one.”
With the 2008 LLMRS season wrapped up, McDougald completes his best points finish yet, placing his #68 HayWire Motorsports / KMB Design Groups / Print-NW / Ringers Gloves / Mauritsen Enterprises Toyota Camry in the 2nd spot at the season’s end. The team qualified in the top-4, making the Trophy Dash, at 7 of the 8 events, winning 2 of those Trophy Dashes, one being the first Dash of the season. The team also finished in the top-5 at 5 of the 8 events, having one of the 3 remaining events rained out. The team finished no worse than 6th during the 2008 LLMRS season and won 2 of the 8 Main Events. The team also was the only team to sweep an event, winning fast time, the Trophy Dash, the Heat Race and the Main Event during the series’ second visit to Ephrata Raceway Park. “We had a great season,” said driver “Terrible” Tim McDougald”, “I can’t tell you how proud of my guys I am. We had a great car all year. They were on every adjustment. They never stopped working on it. They really came through for me every week. Not just at the track, but all the untold hours at the shop too. These guys are amazing. I couldn’t do any of this without them. It’s been a dream season, really. We set out to make a serious run at it, and I think we proved we are a serious competitor. I have to thank all my sponsors for a great season. They really stepped up this year, they came through with huge support. We can’t thank them enough. Starting with KMB Design Groups, they have been a big supporter this year. Print-Northwest did an amazing job with the graphics and the vinyl wrap. I’ve never had a car that looked this good. We put that vinyl wrap through a pretty serious test, and it came through pretty good. Ringers Gloves and Mauritsen Enterprises, they have been a huge help this year too. We can’t thank this group enough. There are a few names that are not on the car, but they deserve a big thank you as well. And also the fans, we thank everyone who cheered for us and even those who just talked about us. I’ll even thank those who didn’t cheer, ‘cause I know you watched. I could go on and on thanking everyone. It’s been a great season.”
