MARYSVILLE, Ca — Taking a weekend off from California Civil War Series competition Team 292 Inc. headed for the Marysville Raceway Park this past Saturday night and it netted a victory for Auburn’s Andy Forsberg as he dominated the main event, en route to his eighth win of the season aboard the A & A Stepping Stone, GP Development No. 92.

Forsberg had previously planned to run at the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville on Saturday night, but a mid-week change of plans was made due to the fact that he was solidly locked into the third spot in the Civil War Series standings. With Team 292 Inc. driver Willie Croft planning to compete at Marysville already, the decision was made to make the short tow to compete at the tracks' “Championship Night,” rather than make the long commute to Watsonville.

After qualifying fifth quickest and finishing fourth in his heat race, Forsberg then lined-up in the second row of the night’s main event and he didn’t wait long to put the Basalite Concrete, K & N Filters No. 92 into the lead of the race. The ’08 Silver Dollar Speedway champion charged into the top spot by lap two and not even a late restart could slow him down as he went on to easily pick up his eighth main event win of the season. “The promoters have spent a lot of time and money on this place and it’s improved it a lot,” Forsberg said. “It feels good to get another win and hopefully we can start putting some good results up the next couple weeks.”

Fellow Team 292 driver Croft began the evening by setting the fastest lap of the night in qualifying and transferring through his heat race, before drawing the number eight pill to put the Holey Smokes BBQ, LRB Manufacturing No. 29 in the third row for the feature. “Double Down” was then charging through the pack in the main event when late race contact with Jimmy Trulli put him out of the running and left him with a 16th place finish.

Civil War Finale Saturday:

Up next for Team 292 Inc. will be this Saturday’s California Civil War 360 Sprint Car Series season finale at the Placerville Speedway. The event at the high-banked red clay bullring has become a big race every September and it will also be the final chance to tune-up prior to the 17th annual Pacific Sprint Fall Nationals, which kicks off at Silver Dollar Speedway on Thursday October 2.

Going into the Civil War Series Finale in Placerville Forsberg sits comfortably in the third position in the standings and will look to run up front at a track he’s won at on five different occasions during weekly competition this season. The Auburn driver has been shut out of the win category this season with Civil War however, and he would certainly like to go out with a victory at his home track. “I’ve won the Civil War Finale a couple times in my career and it would be nice to be able to win it again and build momentum for the Fall Nationals,” the 4-time Civil War champ said.

Croft has competed in nine of the 14 Civil War Series races this season and currently ranks 12th in the standings going into the finale at Placerville. The Sacramento racer also made nine starts this season in the weekly series at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds track, picking up one victory, five top five’s and six top tens along the way.

Croft will also be looking for his first Civil War win of the year during the season finale on Saturday and will also be searching for a good run to try and build some confidence towards the upcoming Fall Nationals. During the Civil War event in Placerville on May 3 Croft charged from 20th to eighth and also had another strong run at the track while driving Andy Gregg’s No. 16x at the Mark Forni Classic, where he carved his way from 19th to finish ninth in the main event.
