WILTON, Caliornia — - The Flashco SRL Southwest Tour Series returns to Altamont Raceway Park for its last 2008 race in California.
With only this race and the Championship race in Las Vegas left on the schedule, this Saturday's event may have a big impact on who wins the Flashco SRL Championship and the rookie of the year award.
Will Jim Pettit continue his dominance at Altamont in his #03 Top of the Hill Performance Ford or will Craig Raudman in his #2 Performance Electric Chevrolet collect his second win of the year and position himself for a run at the championship in Las Vegas? And will the #4 Auto-Pro Racing Engines Chevrolet of Greg Voigt, who has looked strong all year, finally make it to the winners circle and create a tight three way battle going into the final race?
"We are really looking forward to Saturday and we are hoping to improve upon our performance at the last race and get the car dialed in a bit more", said points leader Jim Pettit. "I would like to have a really strong race to help increase my lead in the points standings going into the championship race at the Bullring", said a pumped up Pettit who is on quite a tear with a string of wins with the SRL and on the region's dirt tracks.
Although young rookie Josh Combs in his #7 MudRacing Ford has shown he belongs in a tour car this year, two other Flashco SRL rookies are still in the running for Victory Circle Chassis rookie of the year award. Madera's Justin Westmoreland in his #9 3M Automotive Aftermarket Products Ford is only 26 points behind Combs and the Joe Farre' in his Bruno's Peppers #54 Chevrolet has remained in the hunt as well with two events left.
"We are thankful to the folks at Altamont for having us back for this make-up date" said Steve Fensler, executive director of the SRL. "We have had some great races there this year and we expect this Saturday's race to be a great one for the fans as well" continued Fensler.
Note: The Flashco SRL Series will be holding its championship race on November 1st at the famous Las Vegas Bullring. The SRL will be the headlining the Bullring's "Speed Fest 2008" event which will also feature the USAC Western States Midgets and the SMRA Supermodifieds.
