DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — Just like in baseball, well in fact it was Yogi Berra who said “It ain’t over, until it’s over,” the battle for the Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oil ASA Member Track National Championship will have its final swing this weekend. And for now, it’s too close to call. Cary Stapp did what he had to do last weekend as he captured his seventh feature win of the season at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, TX. Stapp has the lead in West Region as well as the overall lead for the National Championship over Orange Show Speedway’s Linny White. Stapp’s win was enough to wrap up the track championship at Thunderhill. Winning the championship is important because that is one of the requirements needed in order to have a shot at the ASA Member Track National Championship. He currently has a 330-point lead over Duane Toyne. He is very aware of what is on the line and as he stated in Thunderhill’ s press release from last Saturday night, he knows what needs to happen. “I was concerned about the car count on Saturday,” Stapp stated in their release. “I know that Linny White from Orange Show Speedway (San Bernardino, CA) is close behind me in both the regional and national rankings. And he’s been doing well while running in bigger (car) fields. I just hope my win on Saturday will help me stay on top.” White also realizes what he needs to do as well. The one thing that has helped him this season is each week he has been starting near the back of every feature and worked his way to the front to give him a high point average. He realizes that he needs to do this in order to have a shot at the ASA Member Track National Championship. “If I didn’t have the points lead and with so much wasn’t on the line for the National Championship, I wouldn’t want to do this if I had the option not to.” White stated in a recent Orange Show Speedway press release. “I haven’t been points racing in awhile. I usually have nothing but the win in mind. We are just too close not to try. I don’t want to second guess and feel like I didn’t give it everything I had.” White from Colton, CA currently has a 124-point lead over Rick Chavez of Lakeside, CA going into this weekend. Thunderhill Raceway will have their 12th Annual Allstate Texas Stock Car Spectacular this weekend on September 26 & 27th. More information can be found at www.thunderhillraceway.com Orange Show Speedway will have its Race to Read Celebration this Saturday night.
