SPEEDY WINS CHALLENGE CUP XXXIV BUT MOOSE WINS THE WAR

Ronnie Hults claimed Challenge Cup XXXIV for the ableplanet Late Models at Colorado National Speedway on Saturday night. Richard Burton claimed the Snap-On Tools Pro Truck feature after a wild finish. Paul Deines claimed the SUNOCO Grand American Modified finish and Jeff Walbaum took the Suss.net Sportsman feature. Emett Grazier claimed the Doc Popcorn Super Stocks main and Joe Matlock took his second Loveland Goodyear Challenge Cup in a row. Steel Drain chugged to win in the Witthar Racing Train race.

John Johnson took off in the Loveland Goodyear Super Stock feature with Joe Martinez, Joe Matlock, Al Duran and Nick Martinez following. Justin McKeachie and Eddie Garcia tangled for a lap 4 caution. Jereme Wall, Dave Smith and Frank Gastineau tangled for a lap 5 caution. Duran got by Matlock on lap 7 and Johnson spun on lap 10 leading the race. Jared Wall was now in fifth with J Martinez leading. Duran took the lead on lap 12 and J Martinez had a flat tire. On lap 14, Harvey Webb Jr met his brother Stephen Webb in the X for a caution. Duran was penalized positions and Matlock now led over N Martinez, Harry Livermore Jr, Ja. Wall, and Je. Wall. On the restart John Martello broke and Duran moved into fifth on lap 14. Debris on the traced forced a lap 16 caution and another caution flew on lap 17 another caution flew for Ja. Wall and Livermore tangling. Ja. Wall was sent to the rear and officials decided to end the race with a green-white-checkered. Gastineau and Ja. Wall tangled on the last lap but continued. Matlock took the win over 2008 champion N Martinez, Duran, Livermore and Johnson. Joe Gastineau took the rookie honors for the season. Duran set quick time in qualifying.

The Doc Popcorn Super Stocks had 2 starts go bad as Scott Miller and Corey Greer were out before a lap was complete. Emett Grazier led early over Joe Sidell, Mario Garramone, Dad Dodot and Ric Lothert. John Patee spun on lap 5 and Jason Morris was sent to the rear. Mike Cox was fifth on lap 6 and fourth a lap later. Mike Powers Jr spun for lap 6 caution and Grazier led Sidell, Garramone, Cox, and Lothert. Garramone fell off with a flat and Cox was now third over Lloyd Dempewolf and Dodot. Dodot and Jack Nugent tangled for a lap 20 caution and Sidell was penalized positions moving Cox to second over Dempewolf, Lothert and Dennis Edwards. Edwards was fourth on lap 21 and caution flew on lap 23 for Damon Dickey spinning. The 2008 Champion Grazier took the win over Cox, a great run for Dempewolf, Edwards and Lothert. Corey Cox took the season rookie honors. Garramone was fastest in qualifying.

Tommy Roe took the early lead in the Suss.net Sportsman A with JimBob Rogers, Jeff Walbaum, Eric Blackard and Jeff Webb in tow. Josh Flood spun for a lap 17 caution flag to bunch up the field. Walbaum took second on lap 25 and was leading on lap 30, but Roe fought back and took the lead back on lap 31 in a great battle for the lead. On lap 32, Webb spun for a caution and Nick Brinlee was sent to the rear. Walbaum had a slight lead again when he was forced to check-up due to a lapped car. Flood broke for a lap 37 caution and Walbaum took the win on the last corner over 2008 champion Roe, Blackard, Rogers and Webb. Blackard was pushed back to fifth for passing to the inside on the last restart. Troy Meyer claimed the rookie champion and Walbaum was quickest in qualifying.

Paul Deines took off in the SUNOCO Grand American Modified feature with Jeff Hansen, Justin Case, Greg Nelson and Forest Smith in tow. Jace Hansen got by Smith on lap 10 for fifth and John Seely spun for a lap 11 caution. Ja. Hansen got by Case on lap 14 for fourth and Wayne Muhler spun on lap 15. On lap 29, Muhler spun and then Devin Breese and Terry Tjarks tangled. Case was now back up to fourth but Ja. Hansen fought back on lap 27. Dave Finley was fifth on lap 28 but nothing was going to stop 2008 champion Deines as he took the narrow win over Je. Hansen, Nelson, 2008 Rookie of the Year Ja. Hansen and Finley. Nelson was quickest in qualifying.

The Snap-On Tools Pro Trucks were next out for battle and the point battle was fierce as 7 trucks had a chance for the championship if the chips fell their way. Richard Burton took the early lead with Beau Kellogg, Chris Leaf, Cris Muhler and Mark Neff following. Chris Cox, Randy Whitman and Mike Bernard spun for a lap 4 caution and Neff was fourth on lap 7. Neff took third on lap 9 and Happy Ferree was fifth on lap 10. Ferree was fourth on lap 14. Burton, Kellogg, Neff and Ferree were all in a pack fighting for the lead when Cox spun for a lap 24 caution. Bernard and Muhler tangled on the restart and Ronnie Hults was fifth after the next restart. On lap 33 Dustin Courter, Rudy Vanderwal and Whitman tangled then Billy Harkins and Bernard tangled on the restart. Neff was in second on lap 27 when Jack Nugent spun. Ferree was penalized for jumping a restart moving R Hults to fourth and Leaf to fifth. Burton and Neff battled for the win and were side-by-side as they got the white flag. Contact was made sending both trucks into the infield and then Harkins and Muhler ended up with damage. The race was called and Burton was awarded the win over Neff, 2008 champion Kellogg, 2008 rookie champion Ferree and Hults. Neff was quick time in qualifying.

Nick Williams lost his hood to begin the 75-lap ableplanet Late Model feature. Bruce Yackey jumped to the early lead over Tyler Chrisinger, Ronnie Hults, Chris Eggleston and Mike Gallegos. Chrisinger was shuffled back and eventually was knocked out of the top 5 by Chris Atkinson on lap 7. On lap 17, Joni Cowan and Butch Tilton tangled for a caution and Rick Smith was fifth on lap 33. Hults opened up a huge lead and by lap 50, Smith was fourth. Smith took third on lap 53 from Eggleston and Roger Avants broke for a lap 55 caution. Dave Finley spun for a lap 57 caution and Hults opened up another big lead on the restart. Darren Crocker made a late-race charge into the top 5 and Hults took the big win over 2008 Champion Yackey, Smith, Crocker and Eggleston. Chrisinger claimed the rookie honors for the division.

Last Call jumped out to the early lead in the Witthar Racing Train race, but soon Turbo Train took over with ½ Fool and Plum M.T. chasing them down. Exhaust Pros Express broke along with Train of Fools and SNAFU. Turbo Train chugged to the win over ½ Fool and Plum M.T., Termin-8-or, Steel Dragon and Last Call. Termin-8-or claimed the championship.
