PERRIS, California — This Saturday night, October 25th, Perris Auto Speedway will help the needy with a Food Drive presented by Majestic Realty, Commerce Construction and Citrus Plaza. Any adult or senior fan who brings three cans of food will receive a free ticket to a race at The PAS in 2009. All of the collected food will de donated to the Family Service Association in Redlands. Supplying the action on the track will be the Extreme Late Models MC Painting and Contracting Super Stocks, Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks and the California Lightning Sprint Cars. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 6:30 PM.
“We have chance to help some people who may be in need, especially with the way the economy is going right now,” Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian said on Monday. “Things are tough and this is a way to show the needy that people care and want to help. Our fans have always been great in helping out. We want to show them our appreciation by giving them a free ticket for aiding the less fortunate.”
Saturday’s show will be highlighted by the return of the popular Extreme Late Model series. As the season winds down, the fight for the crown is down to three drivers. Former Sprint Car star Mike Kirby of Torrance, Bill Bartels in Marina Del Rey and Murrieta’s Mike Kirby. At the last race on September 20th, Kirby posted the win and carries a 10-point lead over Bartels heading into Saturday’s 25-lap main event. Dunham, who led the points heading into the last race, is 24 markers behind the leader.
Carpinteria’s Ed Perry could come close to locking up the crown in the MC Painting and Contracting Super Stocks on Saturday. Perry leads 2006 champion Mark Shackelford, of Riverside, by 23 points. Both Perry and Shackelford drive for Jerry & Pam Dodd who have won four PAS championships (Luke Dodd 2000, Chad Burns 2002, Linny White 2004 and Shackelford 2006).
The California Lightning Sprint Cars, who have supplied many drivers to the Lucas Oil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series, will be on hand for their final race of 2009. When the Lightnings last appeared at The PAS four weeks ago, Spring Valley’s Jarrett Kramer spanked the competition for the win. Lightning Sprint Cars are scaled down versions of full size Sprint Cars and are powered by powerful motorcycle engines.
Rounding out Saturday’s show will be the Pick-A-Part Factory Stocks. Ron Davis of Norwalk holds a commanding 45 point lead over Riverside’s Darryl Kinnane in the standings.
Saturday’s racing program will include qualifying for the Late Models and heats and main events for all classes. At intermission the popular PAS dance contest will take place with prizes for the best dancers 12 and under.
