WILTON, California — The season opener for the SRL Southwest Tour Series is over four months away, but race teams are already making moves to be ready for the first event on April 4th.
Two such drivers who are making plans to make their first full-time assault on the SRL in 2009 are NASCAR Southwest Tour veteran Darrell LaMoure of Phoenix, AZ and series rookie, Kevin Callahan of Bakersfield.
LaMoure, a regular of the NASCAR Southwest Tour for 12 years with over 180 starts is looking forward to getting back to his kind of racing.
“We love the tour cars and I can’t wait to get back to racing the entire season,” stated LaMoure.
“We ran a couple of SRL races in 2008 and really had a great time…there’s a lot of camaraderie among the drivers and that makes for a great atmosphere in the pits, which seems to carry over to the racetrack.” LaMoure added.
The 20 year old Callahan came up through the go-kart ranks, making his first Late Model appearance at the 2005 October Classic at Mesa Marin Raceway. Callahan has spent the past three seasons in the NASCAR Late Model division at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.
Callahan made one SRL Southwest Tour Series start in 2008 and has made the move to full-time in 2009 as part of the NTS Motorsports multi-car operation with teammate Brennan Newberry.
“We wanted to take the next step and the SRL offers great competition at great racetracks.” Callahan stated.
“When we looked at the SRL we were amazed to find out that the budget to run the tour car all year will cost no more than running a full Late Model season.” Callahan added.
The SRL Southwest Tour Series will begin its ninth season of competition on April 4th when the SRL will be part of the NASCAR Camping World Series West season opener at All-American Speedway in Roseville, CA. In 2009, the SRL Southwest Tour Series will make stops at Las Vegas Motor Speedway">The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Madera Speedway, the New Stockton 99 Speedway and All-American Speedway.
