SPOKANE, Washington — The Inland Championship Auto Racing Late Model Series (ICAR) has announced its 2009 racing schedule.
With eight races over the course of five months teams will have the opportunity to run consistently for the points championship while also having time for family and the potential to take part in other racing events.
The season kicks off May 2, 2009 at Stateline Speedway and returns for its second race of the season on June 6. ICAR runs race No. 3 at Stateline on July 11 and has two yet to be determined dates at Spokane County’s Motorsports Park.
On August 8 ICAR makes its first appearance ever at Montana’s Raceway Park located in Kalispell. This event will be the only race run outside the Inland Empire and is sure to be a draw for teams from across the Inland Northwest.
ICAR resumes its Stateline schedule on September 5 to highlight the facilities Labor Day Weekend spectacular. The series championship race takes place on September 26 at the Post Falls, Idaho facility.
Nathan Fluery is ICAR’s defending champion but will be taking the season off to focus on other projects. His championship winning race car has been purchased by Todd Havens whose 16-year old son Brayden will be running for the 2009 championship and Rookie of the Year title.
Other newcomers to the series include Dan Garber, who will be competing against his son Colton and father Bruce, Scott Cannon, who appeared at the final 2008 Stateline ICAR race and Jaelen Pace, a former crew member for Gary Lewis Racing and a current Ferris High School sophomore.
Colton Garber, Mike Eller Jr., Amanda MacDonald and Ryen Tarr return to the series as potential championship contenders based on their top-5 points finishes from 2008.
Also in the mix will be Larry Bertrand, Corey Juhnke, Stacey Rogers, Shane Blakesley and Russ Osborne.
ICAR has a minimum starting field of 22 cars at each event with 50-75 laps the scheduled distance depending on car count and venue size.
A general rules meeting and the securing of car numbers is taking place January 17, 2009 at FastKart Indoor Speedway located in Spokane, WA. For more information on the ICAR Late Model Series log onto www.icarlatemodels.com
