DAYTONA BEACH, Florida — The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) announced today the hiring of Leslie Maxie to head up the stock car sanctioning body’s public relations efforts in the Eastern region of the United States.
Maxie, named Manager of Communications for East Regional Media Outreach, will be based in NASCAR’s New York offices and will oversee outreach to an area that includes the major markets of New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta.
Maxie will also focus on outreach surrounding events at race tracks in Pocono, Penn.; Watkins Glen, N.Y.; Loudon, N.H.; Richmond, Va.; Dover, Del.; and Atlanta.
Maxie, 42, previously headed her own production company as president and executive producer of LeMax Productions LLC. She is also a former analyst, anchor and reporter at a variety of television networks, including ESPN, FOX Sports Net, CBS and Oxygen.
She also is a former Olympian, having competed in the 1988 games in Seoul, in the 400 meter hurdles.
Maxie is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where she earned a degree in Public Policy and Development.
“Leslie immediately strengthens our public relations team, especially when it comes to outreach with broadcast media outlets,” said NASCAR’s managing director of communications, Ramsey Poston. “She is the perfect person to intensify our efforts from the Northeast to the Southeast, where there are millions of NASCAR fans and several long-standing, popular events in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
