INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana — I wish I was in Phoenix in the warm weather, instead of the chilling temperatures here in Indy. Many of the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series teams were testing at Firebird International Raceway in Chandler, Ariz., over the weekend, in preparation for the Kragen O’Reilly Auto Parts Winternationals that are only nine days away. I guess I will have to wait patiently for my turn in the sun at Pomona.
Racing is starting to pick up a little bit as we enter into February. The Rolex 24 at Daytona was held over the weekend and the Brumos Porsche team broke the winning streak of the Chip Ganassi Racing team, who had won it the past three years. The Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series had its fourth race of the season over the weekend in Houston and James Stewart picked up another win. And Matt Kobyluck became the only two-time winner at the Toyota All-Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.
Many of the Ringers’ racers and teams return to action during the Winternationals at Pomona (Calif.) and Daytona for the Budweiser Shootout, both held the same weekend.
Even though I am complaining about the chilly weather, I am going to go play in it this weekend. Some friends and I are going to go snowboarding in southern Indiana. I just hope there is some fresh powder instead of the “fake snow” most places have to produce if there is no new snow.
