DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Fab. 26,2001) - Two NASCAR Winston Cup Series drivers - including this year's Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip - top the list of entries for the NAPA 300 NASCAR Winston West Series race at The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Waltrip and Ron Hornaday are among more than 30 entries expected to vie for a starting spot in the 26-car field. The $102,028 event will be televised on Fox Sports Net on a tape delay basis.

Hornaday - a rookie this year in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series - finished Second in the NASCAR Winston West Series find standings in 1994 before heading to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, where he won two championships. He graduated to the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National Division, last year before going to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series for 2001. Among a slate of talented veterans Waltrip and Hornaday will be challenging are four series champions - defending champion Brendan Gaughan, who will be competing on his hometrack; the legendary Hershel McGriff, winner of the 1986 title; two-time series champion Bill Sedgwick; and 1999 series champion Sean Woodside.

Other veterans entered in the event include Kevin Richards of Spokane, Wash.; Eric Norris of Dallas; Austin Cameron of El Cajon, Calif.; Joe Bean of San Diego; Steve Portenga of Sparks, Nev.; Scott Gaylord of Lakewood, Colo.; Brandon Ash of Umpqua, Ore.; Mike Duncan of Lamont, Calif; Sammy Potashnick of Sikeston, Mo.; Jack Sellers of Sacramento, Calif.; Troy Cline of Hawthorne, Calif.; and Rick Bogart of El Cajon, Calif.

A talented field of series rookies are also expected to mount a charge. Freshman drivers on the entry list include Johnny Borneman III of Ramona, Calif.; Mark Reed of Bakersfield, Calif.; Tim Woods 111 of Chino Hills, Calif.; Scott Lynch of Burley, Idaho; Brett Thompson of Jerome, Idaho; Ross Thompson of Phoenix, Ariz.; Tony Schmidt of Newburg, Ore., and Dennis Hannel of Murphys, Calif.

The NAPA 300 will mark the first visit by the NASCAR Winston West Series to the .375- mile paved oval, known as The Bullring. The circuit returns to Las Vegas in October to compete on the 1 .5-mile superspeedway.####
