Scott Gaylord driver of the No. 00 Oliver Gravity Separators Monte Carlo, is ready for the next stop on the NASCAR Winston West Series circuit. The state-of-the-art 1/3-mile facility, The Bullring at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, will play host to the West's top drivers Wednesday (February 28, 2001) in what is predicted to be an action packed 300 lap event. Gaylord, who resides in Lakewood, Colo., is ready for the challenges the track and competition may throw at him.
There will be a lot of "unknowns" on this, the inaugural visit at the newly reconfigured short-track. The benefit of testing is sure to help some teams, but with 300 laps, time may be the equalizer. Gaylord, a veteran in the series, may not have notes on the track, but he has something just as valuable, experience. And he is hungry for that first win.
Will his appetite be satisfied at Vegas? You have to come out to The Bullring and find out! Leave those buffets behind and come get a sampling of something a little tastier, the NASCAR Winston West. Come out and watch Gaylord and the other heroes of the West. If you have only bought tickets to the Winston Cup events or watched NASCAR on TV you are in for a treat! You will not find yourself thinking of the concession stand or worrying about traffic at a Winston West event! You will be glued to your seat as the action unfolds!
When the breath taking excitement is over come meet the drivers, get up close to their cars! Swing by Gaylord's No. 00 hauler after the event and pick up a driver card from him and the team! Don't leave Vegas missing the best show of the week!
RacingWest: What are your goals for this season?
Scott Gaylord: To win races!
RW: How did the season-opener at Phoenix International Raceway go for you and the team?
SG: We can not afford to test so we were very slow in practice but found some speed for the race and moved up nearly into the top five when we lost a cylinder and ran the last half of the race down on power but still finished 10th, all in all we were very happy with the results.
RW: Have you had a chance to test at The Bullring in Las Vegas?
SG: Ha Ha
RW: What are you expecting at the event and what do you think it will take to win?
RW: How do you feel now that the series is on one tire?
SG: For the Oliver team it helps level the competition.
RW: There seemed to be mixed emotions having a Winston Cup driver win the race at PIR. There will be a Winston Cup driver in this event as well. Do you think there is less of an advantage for the Winston Cup drivers on a short-track that a larger track like PIR and why or why not?
SG: Short track can help even the competition somewhat but they still have the technology that most of the west teams don't, although it's good for the series and drivers to have cup driver in the WW races, but if one of them has a problem at impound they should not be able to take points and prize moneys from those of us who work so hard to be at these races on a regular basis.
RW: Do you like running with or without the Winston Cup drivers in a Winston West event?
SG: I enjoy having cup driver racing with us.
RW: Do you have a car or driver appearance scheduled at Vegas?
SG: Not at this time. But we love the fans and they are always welcome to stop by the No. 00 hauler or car.
RW: What is your favorite thing to do at Vegas when not busy with the car?
SG: If we have time we like to see some shows and go on some of the rides.
RW: Will you be competing at any other events while in Vegas?
SG: I may have a ride in the No. 52 Busch car.
RW: What is your game-plan now that one race is down and your goals may have to be adjusted?
SG: Try to win races.
