However the series points leaders found themselves having to deal with an unexpected source of competition at the Havasu 95 Speedway race from Miles Copenhaver. The 19 year old driver, in the Paul Copenhaver Motorsports Ford, is planning to run the 2009 Super Late Model Series at the Toyota Speedway At Irwindale and was looking for some pre season seat time. The team had a one race sponsor deal to cover the trip to Lake Havasu City with a contingency that said a top three finish would earn them a trip to this Saturday night's race in Blythe. Copenhaver won the feature race that night following a close finish over Austin Murphy.
Miles Mentor, Ron Esau explained to Miles this is not going to be easy to go to someone else’s back yard and run with them and win again. Miles did a great job from the first practice season being smoked by the local boys, telling the PCM crew what was needed to make him go better. After PCM team and Miles Dad Paul Copenhaver made the rear adjustments Miles had the working great. Miles Qualified 3rd and finished 3rd in the first of twin 25 lap races. The track cooling down made the crew to loss to pass the two cars in front of him. For the second twin 25 the PCM Team made more adjustments to the car and after a few jack rabbit starts Mile car was really good getting off the hard turn four corner and got in the point leader and first race winner and Mark the local point leader spun out and Miles was the cause of the yellow and had to go to the back of the back. Miles brother did a great job of keeping his driver “Miles” cooled down and Miles started coming threw the pack to finished another third and may antoher deal to travel back on run with the Locals at Havasu’s 95 Speedway on March 14th.
Miles and the PCM Team will be preparing a Super Late model car for him to test at Irwindale Speedway opener night March 21st and helping Ron Esau test his car that is for rent or sale.
