MOORPARK, California — The Monster Energy AMA Supercross visited the Lucas Oil Stadium for the first time on Saturday. Since the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series had the weekend off, I saw many drivers and crew members, even former NHRA crew members, at the race on Saturday.
The NASCAR Nationwide and the Sprint Cup Series visited the Las Vegas Motor Speedway over the weekend for their individual races.
Las Vegas-native and Ringers' supporter Brendan Gaughan recorded his second consecutive top-10 finish of the season, with a seventh-place in the Sam's Town 300 on Saturday. Gaughan was also the second-highest finishing rookie of the race.
Gaughan had another rookie finish directly behind him, and that was the driver of the Ringers' supporting Penske Racing No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge of Justin Allgaier in eighth place.
Allgaier, Gaughan and the Nationwide Series will return to action on March 21 in the Scotts Turf Builder 300 at the Bristol Motor Speedway in Bristol, Tenn.
The Penske Racing trio of Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish Jr. and David Stremme took to the 1.5-mile tri-oval on Sunday for the Shelby 427. Hornish led the trio to the finish line in the 16th position, with teammate Stremme finishing two spots behind him in 18th.
Busch, who is also a Las Vegas-native, and the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge finished in the 23rd position, while his younger brother Kyle won the event.
The Sprint Cup Series travels to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Kobalt Tools 500 on Sunday, March 8.
This weekend I will head to Las Vegas myself for the Matco Tools Expo and then will travel directly to Gainesville, Fla., for the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event at Gainesville Raceway, March 12-15.
