LAS VEGAS, Nevada — Greetings from the Matco Tools Expo at Casears Palace in sunny Las Vegas! I ventured out to the desert on Saturday morning and will be here until Wednesday evening before heading to Gainesville, Fla., on Thursday morning for the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals taking place March 12-15.
Yesterday the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the Penske Racing trio competed in the Kobalt Tools 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Ga. At the end of the 325-lap race (330 laps were run due to a caution toward the end of the race); a Ringers-supported Penske team came out on top.
Kurt Busch and his No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge started on the front row for the race and led on six different occasions for a total of 234 laps. That is 72% of the total race! Sunday's win was Busch's 19th career win.
Busch's teammate David Stremme finished 23rd in the No. 12 Penske Racing Dodge Charger, while Sam Hornish Jr. exited the race early after being involved in an accident. Hornish was scored in 37th place.
Ringers Gloves would like to congratulate Busch, Pat Tryson, the entire No. 2 Miller Lite crew and all of the Penske Racing organization on the win!
Although there were no NHRA races taking place over the weekend, the IHRA visited State Capital Raceway in Baton Rouge, La., for the Mardi Gras Nationals. Ringers' supporter Bruce Litton of Indianapolis piloted his Lucas Oil Products dragster to victory in the Top Fuel category.
That's it for this week; next weekend I'll have all the NHRA action from the swamp and the Gatornationals!
