GOMEZ READY TO KICK-START NASCAR WEST SEASON IN TEXAS
Johnathan Gomez

NORTH HIGHLANDS, California — Drive for Diversity driver Jonathan Gomez, from Twin Falls, ID, will embark on his 2009 NASCAR Camping World Series West rookie campaign Saturday at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle, TX.

"Gomez is coming off of a roller coaster 2009 debut event in the non-points Toyota All-Star Showdown."

Gomez will pilot his RTD Motorsports / Heritage Cattle Company Chevrolet around the 3/8ths mile asphalt oval just outside Austin, with his eye on trying to score his third career top-ten in just three points race starts.

Gomez is coming off of a roller coaster 2009 debut event in the non-points Toyota All-Star Showdown at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif. After a stunning run through the open qualifying race, Gomez was an innocent victim in two crashes in the feature race.

The 26 year-old driver is ready to get the points paying season off on the right foot.

“I’m pretty much past what happened at Irwindale,” Gomez said, while heading to a test session at Stockton 99 Speedway on Tuesday. “It’s time to focus on the season and not think about it.”

Saturday’s race at Thunderhill should be a good one for Gomez, who made his mark the last few seasons at the very similar Magic Valley Speedway in Idaho. Gomez was the champion of the Super Stock division and runner-up in the Elite division at the Northwest speed plant in 2008.

“My goal is to qualify well and finish up front,” Gomez said.

Gomez will be flying the maroon, gold, and black colors of the Heritage Cattle Company but will also carry a new associate sponsor Modern Machinery on the car.

Modern Machinery supplies high quality heavy equipment for rent and sale throughout the Northwest.

Gomez has also announced plans to run several Late Model races at All American Speedway in Roseville, Calif. throughout the summer. He will be debuting in the RTD Motorsports / Heritage Cattle Company Late Model on March 20-21.

Saturday’s race in Texas will be shown on SPEED, March 25, at noon.
