ANETELOPE, California — The No. 20 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry team took home a third place finish at Saturday night’s AllState Texas Thunder “150” at Thunderhill Raceway in Kyle Texas. Driver Eric Holmes looked to make it three-for-three at the short track in Kyle. It all came down to the final lap. For several laps, Holmes battled Mike David for the coveted leader position. On the white flag lap David would spin in the corner coming across the NAPA Toyota allowing Greg Pursley and teammate Moses Smith to get by Holmes. The race finished under a green-white checkered scenario. The NAPA team from Bill McAnally Racing is third in the chase for the NASCAR Camping World Series West championship.
“What a night,” said Holmes, who started on outside of the front row after only running one practice. Rain caused the cancellation of a second practice. “It’s really hard to start the season without being able to get in the full scheduled practices. We needed more track time although we were fourth on the time charts in practice. The track conditions continue to change because of the rain and the drop of temperature. We hung onto the pole until the last qualifier.”
“Crew chief Ty Joiner and the No. 20 NAPA Toyota team gave me the car to win this. We were able to lead a few laps early in the race gaining those valuable bonus points. We want to win races but even more importantly, we are racing to give NAPA AUTO PARTS a record fifth West Series championship title.”
The Texas AllState Texas Thunder “150” will be televised on April 2, 2009 on SPEED Channel at noon PST. The next scheduled NCWS race will be on April 4th at All American Speedway in Roseville, California. For ticket information, please visit www.allamericanspeedway.com.
