MARYSVILLE, Washington — On Saturday March 28, 2009 the new era of Super Late Model Stock Car racing in the Northwest gets its start. Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington will host the first ever American Speed Association Northwest Late Model Tour race. The new ‘Thunder In the Northwest’ developed when two popular traveling series combined to become the only premier series in the northwest. The Late Model Challenge Series and the Northwest Tour brought their respective series’ together to provide the racing community the opportunity to see the best drivers from the region.
The first race of the eleven race series in 2009 will get its start as did the 26 year old Northwest Tour in 1985. Evergreen Speedway has hosted the tour opener twenty five times since. The speedway has the largest surface the series will be on in this season. The super .625-mile oval has always drawn the best to challenge the biggest all these years.
This year will be no different as the best have already registered to get the new era off to a great start. A few notables entered are: Gary Lewis, Tom Moriarity, Brad Stanwood, Kelly Mann, Brent Harris, Mike Longton and Jason Fraser. Three father son teams are expected Pete and Shane Harding, Wes and Dan Rhodes with Rod Schultz Sr and Jr. Newcomers to the tour Amanda MacDonald, Allen Cress, Mike Holden and Joey Tanner will debut their talents. Many more part timers and regulars representing both series are registered and ready to be the first to win an ASA NWLMT main event.
There is an open .625 oval practice hosted by Evergreen Speedway on Friday evening March 27. Gates open at 5pm with practice from 6 to 9pm. For more information contact the Speedway at 360-805-6100.
