GOTTULA AND STRMISKA SPLIT LATE MODEL VICTORIES AT MADERA ON SATURDAY

Second generation drivers Kyle Gottula of Modesto and third generation driver Ross Strmiska of Stockton traded wins in twin 50-lap mains for the Whelen All American Western Late Models on Madera Valley Inn Night at Madera Speedway on Saturday night.

Gottula trailed Strmiska for most of the first leg of the double header, but a late race caution on lap 40 gave Gottula a second chance and he made the most of it by taking the lead on the restart. Gottula held Strmiska off the rest of the way to capture the win. He also won last Saturday's season opening race.

The second main looked like it would be a repeat of the first race when Gottula again grabbed the lead from Strmiska following a lap 35 caution. However, Strmiska would battle back to retake the lead on lap 35 for his first win of the young season.

Other winners at Madera on Saturday included Atwater's Jason Aguirre in the American Stock Cars, Sanger's Chris Lewis in the Toyota Sedans, Chowchilla's John Bowersox

in the Modified Super Toyotas, Fresno's Justin Petz in the Hornets, Dillon Hutchison of Citrus Heights in the Baby Grands and Brentwood's Patrick Hill in Mini Cup.
